Recently joined VATSIM as a controller and I must say, they…we take it seriously and go through fairly rigorous training just to be allowed to control in the network. Let’s all not forget to thank those peeps for their tireless efforts!
@metasystem8625
@metasystem8625 3 жыл бұрын
If there's one thing you could criticise about VatSim it's that they take it nearly too seriously. The amount of training and the rules concerning who may control what make it very difficult for new players to become atcs. You can't control for fun, it becomes a serious endeavour you have to pour weeks of learning and months of waiting time into. That said, for the pilots it's amazing. I landed at Gatwick, and I felt like I was at a busy airport. Tower had to stop and reroute other planes to allow me to land, juggled many planes at once, and still was able to get me down and to my gate safely and politely. You'll never get that feeling of being part of a giant working organisation if the head of that ordered chaos isn't up to the challenge. So props to VatSim for making it possible to get these kinds of flights. But man, I wish I could just pick up a mic and guide down one or two planes at a time without having to wait months for the possibility to start as ground and work my way up for the next half year.

@@metasystem8625 I disagree about the "you can't control for fun" part. For those of us with a certain disposition this is exactly what we consider fun (myself included). I have never once wished there was less training. The whole enjoyment comes from learning, the challenge, and feeling like a real controller. Also, it sounds like you're talking about wait times in VATUK. Not every region has their insanely long training times.

That landing was so gentle "Greased Butter" wouldn't even describe it! Been watching you for a while and I'm proud to say I've flown with you WAY WAY WAY back... FSX had only been released for like 3 years. Flew off the cliff drop out in Banff (The glitch airport that had like a 5000ft cliff RIGHT after it.). I remember it so well because I had just gotten a "Thrustmaster Fox II Vibrating Joystick" and the limited edition Tin version of FSX and was eager to fly. Jumped in a lobby with a good amount of ppl and wanted to fly with someone else. I was on the same Roger Wilco server I believe or Ventrilo and heard someone say they were taking off from banff at the airport that has the huge glitched out hole and was like "YUP.... that sounds like my first flight written all over it!" I just remember your name was part of the group of guys... it was like 5 of us just playing around the airport That landing has earned a sub from me for sure lol.... actually I thought I was subbed but apparently not?!

By the way. I would recommend not “keeping the speed up” just because you know you have a guy behind you. That is ATC’s responsibility to provide the separation. If they ask you to keep speed that’s a different story. Also stopping distance goes as the square of incremental speed. If you carry an extra 10% speed you will need 21% more stopping distance! So while you might get to the ground faster it is going to take longer to stop and you might not be convenient to a turn-off which would potentially require that guy to go around…
