as a native mainer, I've done my research and here are some other laws in maine 1. in portland, you will be fined if caught walking down the sidewalk with untied shoes. 2. you wll be fined if you have christmas decorations up after the 14th of january.

A fun little bit of info from the tree case here in Maine, when the Portland police arrested him, they only cuffed the branches, not his actual hands.

The funny thing about Portland, Maine is that the "tree" was fairly average. Portland is probably the most artistic city in New England, so there's tons of performance artists who do stuff like that every day. It's strange for most other people, but for those who live near Portland (including me), the tree wasn't really all that stranger than usual.
