Most Bizarre Car - Pontiac Farago CF 428 Concept car

Chris Ashworth records the Pontiac Farago Concept. The Pontiac Farago CF 428 was a styling exercise for the Pontiac Grand Prix in 1969. It was designed by Paul Farago with some coachwork by Coggiola. CF stands for Coggiola-Farago. The car has a 428 cid V8 engine.

Absolutely beautiful! It's a shame GM didn't actually produce it, even for a few years. It would never have passed the gummint's safety and other standards of the 1970s with that styling.

GM killed it because car this would have been competition for the Corvette, which is what John DeLorean really wanted to build.

It would have been amazing to see what Pontiac could have unleashed on the roads if their hands weren't so tied back in the day. They were way ahead of Chevrolet, who was the top dog division at GM. Pontiac was never the same w/o Mitchell and DeLorean's influence.

Intresting Car, My first Idea was a Mix from Lambo Espada in Front, and (sorry ) AMC Javelin SST at the Rear.

That's bc it is the dash and console of the Grand Prix, as well as the tail lights and head light rings are all from a 69 Grand Prix

That was when GM still had a little imagination left in the design department to come up with this. The disappointing part about the car is that it starts out aero in the front, but turns into something else entirely past the doors to the rear, and becomes more heavy in mass......

Beautiful despite the too-long nose. I can't get enough of watching it poised at that driveway, then accelerating onto the highway with that throaty, sexy V8 gurgle! Stuff I would fantasize about in my youth. Sigh....

this definitely looks sharper and overall more appealing than the lambo marzal concepts (or many of the rather unknown models like the espada,jalpa and urraco) there are similarities of course as designers and car makers were experimenting with similiar shapes and trends at the time. italian american flavor has always been a win-win formula in my books, de tomaso pantera comes to mind as well.

@CHUUMPASS Thank you! You sure know your cars, as not many people are familiar with the AMX/2. It has a longer, flatter shape than the Mangusta, but I can see that at the front of the car.

the front end bears resemblance to the de tomaso mangusta only with a certain touch of the american excess in terms of dimensions, more length&width while the side profile and especially the rear-end with the taillights look distinctively american! this car could very well have been under the AMC brand at the time as it reminds me of the AMX2, the farago almost seems like a 2+2 grand tourer version of it to me. anyway, thank you for recording&sharing. appreciate the insight into american cars
