The landfill was made in China, India, Vietnam, and other slave-driving nations. We now avoid all landfill from the dollar store. No more plastic or cheap garbage is allowed. We buy as much as we can that is made locally, and most of our food comes from the US. Some meat is Canadian but all veggies and fruit (apart from Quebec apples, carrots, and potatoes) are Mexican or USA. Our vehicles are US-designed and made partly in Detroit, Canada and Mexico. What we have observed is that the high-end kit was designed from US R&D, and the cheap landfill was made by slaves basically. Cell phones, electronics, and servers were designed in the US and made in slave nations. Our new reality in the virtue-signalling nation called Canada. But if you think you can do without the crude oil (60% of what gets refined in the US comes from us because your refineries can't process shale oil); the aluminum (you import 99% of what you use as you have virtually no commercial deposits - and half of what you import comes from Canada); the potash your farmers need (80%), the softwood lumber needed for new homes and recovery from natural disasters); the electricity that many northern states are dependent upon (just to name a few)... well, let's just put that to the test, shall we? I'd love it if our governments decide to simply ban selling all that to the US, and watch multiple US industries simply collapse, but it will likely be more like stiff export taxes. It will take you many months to find (far more expensive) alternate sources, *IF* you can. Meanwhile, we can also ban the *import* of select goods that we can produce ourselves or buy elsewhere. Mexico might be willing to sell produce to us instead of you. We can definitely supplant the dairy you sell us (US dairy farmers have been constantly pushing for increased market share; they will be *not* be happy to be completely shut out). And so on.

@@carlover6919 Nope. Your president decided he wanted to wage economic war on us, and came up with a BS reason to do so. We have at least as many beefs with the US over what crosses *from* the US *to* Canada. Nearly every gun used by criminals, for starters. I'm betting there's at least as much illegal drugs flowing into Canada from the US as the other way around. As for illegal crossings, there are more coming *from* the US *into* Canada than going in the other direction - in 2023, about 12,000 entered Canada, while about 10,000 were arrested going the other way. And we expect the number heading north to spike significantly when Trump starts his deportations (far more than they did when he was last in office) and the numbers going the other way to drop. Face it; Canada is being hit because Trump promised to put tariffs on all imports. Period. He thinks we are a soft target. He thinks he can blithely ignore the trade deal *he* struck and *he* claimed was the best in the world. The guy is a bully. And we don't back down from bullies.

It's a big world, America is a convenient trade partner, But that doesn't mean they need to be the only one. Trump wanted America first. Good, than they don't need our convenient trade or natural gas or French fries. Now we move to the open market to trade partners who aren't lead by a wanna be dictator or an un stable genius(LOL). We can deal with countries that respect trade and trade diplomacy. Two can play the tariff game, But is it worth the aggravation??? The USA needs to deal with gun control to many are making there way on to the streets of Canada, Tariffs 100% mark up on everything that goes to the states. Both our countries have issues, But if Trump wants war with Canada, It's a fight he will regret. We Know Trump just wants to make us his little Ukraine, making Putin like taunts. Funny thing, we have more friends than the states and in the states, Trump may want to tread lightly. Not sure he read the room correctly. Canadians will F@ck you up. America can keep Trump & project 2025 agendas & have a nice life over there it's what they voted for, But Canada doesn't need a ride on the crazy train thank you. We can stabilize our country landing better trade agreements else where and still have a diplomatic relationship with the states at arms length, but we owe them nothing & Trump will be Trump ,But he won't be our problem as a trade country of interest. And to anyone wondering TRUMP WILL NOT LEAVE OFFICE THIS TIME. War will be his doing and our call to action. Pay your bills and take care or your affairs, Get your sh!t right, Keep calm and carry on and know that, That should be the focus of every Canadian as well as getting a gun licence, for hunting of coarse. Protect your own interest take care of your household. Godspeed. We will not be victims of Trumps or America. We are a peaceful nation until we are not.

But more so than last time, because this time he has a bunch of deranged yes sayers areound him, and there are more MAGA in Congress. Although he has a narrower majority in the House, so fiscal conservatives may object (together with the Dems) if his ideas call for high spendings. But he will declare a national emergency and I would suppose martial law based on immigration. Meaning he gets more executive powers. And if/when the House refuses to pay for his deportation plan-costing as much as the US defense spendings-and the states resist, he’ll deploy the military for that.

I blame Lord North. My first reaction was probably similar to other Canadians about Trumps 51st jabs. But, this new 51st state would be the largest by population in the American union bumping California, that place full of the “radical left” to #2. Think of the impact on the increase of elected representatives and electoral college votes in every national election. Even Bernie Saunders would be comfortable in Alberta with our public healthcare, $10 daycare, long paid maternity leave, child benefit cheques, National dental care etc. Who’s the radical left now? By American standards, we’re pinko commies. The 51st state would guarantee a Republican never hold office in the good old USA ever again. On the plus side, a good dose of “Canadian” just might save our neighbours from themselves. Oh, yeah, Lord North was the prime minister for George III when the Americans rebelled. If only he enacted the British North America Act 100 years sooner. It would mean law and order and good government from the Arctic to the Caribbean.

I pointed that out on another story a week ago. Our population combined with the 60 to 70% voter turnout means that we would be the largest voter block in the United States. But most Americans don’t realize is that the majority of all Canadians are left of the Democrats on the political spectrum. I heard a Fox News host suggest that Canada be split into two states with the west east… that poor sweet summer child thought that the “West” would be voting Republican. 😂 again, not realizing that conservative Canadians are nothing like Republicans. Conservative Canadians are more like the Democrats. Heck, Alberta, Saskatchewan, BC and Manitoba have strong NDP presence. The NDP is so left compared to the United States , that they makes Bernie Sanders look like a centrist.😂

To my great neighbors in Canada and Mexico : I advise you to only spend your money on imports that have the safety and quality standards that are best for you. Trump and his cabinet who are pre-emptively declaring economic wars worldwide are not highlighting that they intend to remove most of the safety and quality regulations on US made items - which means the foods, pharmaceuticals, mechanicals, high tech, etc items will not only cost more because of the tariffs/trade war, but they will become dangerous to anyone who tries to eat/drink/use them. Please find alternative customers/markets NOW and decrease your dependence on US trade as much as possible. For my part I will be buying the more expensive imports BECAUSE they are less likely to have reduced quality standards. I will be decreasing my spending significantly I admit, but that only increases my commitment to understand what I am getting is the best quality possible. Unfortunately that will largely be non-US made items as US companies take advantage of the widespread deregulation steps trumps cabinet is talking about implementing. There are many of us here in the US that do understand the broader impacts of the policies trumps billionnaire cronies intend to implement, even if many of our fellow citizens still dont comprehend such things as the high cost of chicken eggs due to the bird flu and think that President Biden is enriching himself…….. 😁. The only way I know of to fix stupid is time and consequences. We are in a class war, not a political war. Remains to be seen how this will turn out. A lot of people will suffer - take care of yourselves. If we ever earn back the right to call you friends and neighbors again, it will be after a lot of effort to mend the damage we cause in the meantime.

Dropping tariffs on Chinese EVs, batteries and solar panels would help a lot. We could cut deals for battery and assembly plants in Canada. We could also put tariffs on American cars including Tesla's. Most of the trade imbalance is with Canadian oil and US refiners are customized to refine it and get it at a discount. Is he going to tariff Canadian oil imports too? Deport most of the agricultural, meat processing and service workers? Put tariffs on all imports too. It will drive inflation and interest rates through the roof and end up causing a 2008 like banking and housing crisis. Gas prices would be astronomical and so would groceries.
