Today we're taking a look at the most common tennis serve visual illusions which is the last video on this topic. 🎾 Free Second Serve CONSISTENCY COURSE: www.feeltennis.net/second-ser...
The serve can often times be misinterpreted because of the body rotation and body tilt which affect how the racket and the arm are positioned and aligned in space.
And if you misinterpret what you see you can be attempting to serve according to your incorrect mental image for years and not really finding the right way to hit with power and control.
www.feeltennis.net/visual-ser...
So today's we'll cover:
- the weight transfer
- follow-through
- trophy position (elbow position and racket angle position)
- body alignment at contact point and
- the illusion of arched back.
In my work with adults I have often come across the weight transfer and follow-through misinterpretations but the trophy position illusions may be quite interesting and important for tennis coaches who teach kids as to easier diagnose the problem and correct it.

These videos are so amazing. So many amateurs like myself try to copy what we see from the greats without realizing why it looks the way it does. Thanks again, coach. Keep up the great work.

Wow this is so helpful, i think this is the first time we see all the illusions combined together for serve..ground strokes were awesome too but that was still covered by Tomaz in his videos of removing rackets in pros strokes👍

It took me thousands of shadow swings and hundreds of hours of watching pros practices to realize these illusions (I wish this series existed earlier). Many _understand_ how it should look (i.e. you can easily spot someone doing it wrong), but you can't execute it because you can't quite pick out _why_ it looks different. Great video and series!

Great series! I'd love to see a video of interpretation of how contact is made during the serve. I used to think, open racquet meets the ball, but now, I realize that it's the L shape of the straight arm and the racquet pronating that meets the ball. This completely changed my serve and I no longer have a waiter tray serve.

Very nice. Are you using a highe quality camera? Looks great. Can you make a video about the illusion of the contact point, that is, hitting up and out causing the ball to go down to the court? I think you have but what’s that link?

hi, great vid, thanks. I am wondering if you could make a comparison and analysis of Fededer's slice serve vs S.Williams's ? these two have the best slice serve on tour from male and female players, however their techniques are quite different, I mean the way of pronation. I'd like to know which one is better for amateurs to copy?

You need to understand what's really going on, particularly when you try to mimic the pros, a task that can sometimes be detrimental to your progress. But this is why Tomaz' videos are different and more insightful than others. He illustrates an excellent point with the unknowing development of the waiter's service motion. The point: be careful with illusions. Great instructional video, as always. Thank you, Tomaz.

Hello Tomaz, great video as usual, this series really is enlightening! I have a doubt, the arm movement for the serve, as for the forehand, is to the side and not to the back ? (just like you explained for the forehand) Many thanks :)

The serve "backswing" is the only backswing in tennis that can actually swing backwards. It doesn't have to, players have abbreviated backswings but it is possible to swing backwards initially.

Hi Tomas i just saw a video by Agassi where he made a very sensible point - every one has a comfortable strike zone and we should move and position ourselves every time to make sure we hit the ball in the zone. Many videos teach techniques that do not consider this factor. What are your thoughts on this?

The waiter's position! Matteo Berrettini does it (but can you tell him his service is wrong?). And Kei Nishikori is trying to correct it to reduce the pressure on his shoulder.

You arm is not straight up? At the point of the contact with the ball, your arm should be straight up above shoulder! Your arm is at an angle? Did you watch yourself?
