I have lived in Maryvale for 15 yrs. Gun fire is not at all uncommon, and strangers are not made to feel welcome. The funniest thing is that when we can hear that something happened or is happening on the street, all the porch lights go and it gets as dark as a MIL's heart. There is some funny stuff that happens too, but mostly, don't come visiting at night.

REALLY ITS SO HORRIBLE LIVING HERE. If I was you, I'd think twice about choosing Colorado over here. It's a shit hole now days. I lived in Colorado for 19 years and buddy you must not be here very often. They move them away for special events because they don't want anyone from other states to see how F**KED UP it really is. They were suppose to have the downtown cleaned up and they were not making any improvements on it so the city is or gonna be paying big bucks for not doing what they were told to do. THE GOVERNMENT WAS GIVEN UP. THE POLICE SEE NOTHING. HOMELESS SMOKING DRUGS IN BUS STOPS WERE FAMILIES ARE WAITING FOR THE BUSES. COPS LOOK THE OTHER WAY. If they do arrest someone they are back out on the streets within hours of getting arrested. Colorado is nothing compared to here. The weather here keeps the bullshit even stronger. Who wants to live where it's snowing and cold. I still have family there so I'm there alot. (COLORADO) UNLESS YOU WANT THE DRUGS THAT ARE KILLING PEOPLE DAILY. ONLY REASON ANYONE WANTS TO BE LIVING LIKE THIS IS THE DRUGS AND COST OF LIVING. $23.00 for a frozen whole chicken. Gas is finally going down from $5.00 a gal. That's about all that has gotten cheaper.

my daughter is a nurse and lives in a very expensive high rise condo in downtown phoenix...she was just a short distance from home in the middle of the day, when two men ran up behind her, pushing her to the ground...knocked out her two front teeth and stole her purse...less than a month later, same time of day, she was attacked by a man who punched her and spit in her face...that time the cops apprehended him but the other two were never caught...neither incident was provoked

I lived in Sunnyslope from 10 yrs old until I graduated high school and it sucked...and now it's even worse. Everyone is called a "sloper" that lives there and yes, the drugs are making our entire Phoenix area worse...I hate going into the main central phoenix area now. I'm a delivery driver and the difference is staggering between there and Scottsdale. Every time I go into Phoenix there are SO MANY homeless people now. I live in N. Phoenix now, about maybe 3-5 miles or so from central phoenix and it's a little better than living there, but the homeless encampments are starting to pop up in the neighborhood behind our gated community (it's a retirement community basically, I'm just allowed to live there w/my mom)...things are just getting worse everywhere, our country is falling apart.

I miss the pines and snow but still got family and friends there I pop in every few years but Arizona to me is far less dangerous than other places. Regardless crime has no address and there will always be addiction, poverty, homelessness, drugs and unsavory people and unusual situations. Please do not confuse South Tucson with Tucson. South Tucson was formed as a reaction to fears that being annexed by Tucson would lead to higher taxes. South Tucson was incorporated as a separate city in 1936. Property owners gathered at Yell-O-Inn auto court to vote the town into existence. The City of South Tucson covers an area of about 1.2 square miles and is completely surrounded by the City of Tucson, Arizona. I've lived in midtown Tucson for the last 12 years and feel safe even though there are patches of exceptions. Our homeless population is present but only in small clusters around town. Our homeless task force works hard to get them off the streets and washes into a safer situation...but they have to want the help. I love ❤ living in Tucson, 'cept during the summer when the temps are triple digits way too many consecutive days.

I don't think he's specifically talking about the city of South Tucson. He's talking about the entire area of the south end of town towards the airport.I lived there on S. Park, and yeah, it wasn't the greatest area even then, in the early to mid eighties.

Please allow me to share my perspective. All of Tucson is a very undesirable place to live. The environment itself is gross. All the houses look very aged. Brand new or 40 years old. Every house looks very bad. Trash everywhere, graffiti on everything, homeless people on every corner demanding money for their addiction. Tucson is a very desperate place. I have a feeling that a fee corrupt people are having a great time making tons of money off unnecessary costs of living in Tucson. For example. The vehicle emissions fee??? Air quality? Are you shitting me? Look at all these vehicles spewing out exhaust. Look straight up, day after day military planes going over. I am sure that they are green energy planes. All of Tucson is a pretty sorry way to live.

The heat should not bother one too much because all means of public and private transportation is air-conditioned as are all the malls, places of business and other indoor entertainment venues. A good idea when going about your day is to cover the hardware on your seat belts, hang a white bath towel over your steering wheel. Keeps you from "branding" yourself. Heed the extreme/excessive heat warnings; yes, they will appear on your cell phone. Couple of more words to the wise, semi-wise, the too unwise : wear a sun/ safari type hat preferably one with that flap that covers the back of your neck, and generously slather on the the highest ph sunscreen available. Drivers are prone to get sunburns on the left side of their face, neck and left arm. As the old adage goes it's HOT, but it's a DRY HEAT, which will take its toll on you if you become dehydrated. So, enjoy your stays here in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona, just don't be a FOOL and LOSE your COOL"

Homeless task force is a joke! It takes them way to long to remove homeless camps! Then housing first. The stupidly run democRATic government, toots their horn about putting homeless in housing. Then comes treatment, which we don't know if that works? How many go back to the street because they refuse treatment? Tucson is getting sued because homeless camps are a public nuisance. Every neighborhood that has a homeless camp near, petty crime goes up! Of course theres the violence. There have been like 12 stabbings around tucson, homeless on homeless crime. My biggest fear is getting stabbed by a panhandler because I refused to give him money. So I carry a gun. Well I carry a gun anyhow. Lets talk about the parks. Citizens can't bring their children to play in the parks because they are over run by homeless. You don't have a realistic understanding of the danger vagrants pose!

There are always People wanting to help me and holding the door for me and my wheelchair etc. It’s more laid back here, I do see a lot of homeless People with signs, but the economy has totally a dive all over the Country. Where we live going up Stockton Hill road on one of the plateaus, It is VERY windy, and you are right, It’s very cold and hot here. Can’t say I like the traveling Doctors here, I still don’t have a permanent physician here yet. The medical establishment does suck out here. But, I will never step foot in California again regardless.

Pretty much the same story here. We relocated to Kingman, simply because it was the closest place that "wasn't' California" as well as CO and NM that was still a day's drive to get there to support family and friends if we needed to (and we've needed to - twice. Maybe three times, if one considers "death" an "emergency"). But Kingman and the surrounding communities are a great place to live, in general. Especially compared to the Hell that is California. People are polite and nice here, and the weather isn't nearly as tough as living down in "the valley" as the Phoenix metro region is called locally. I'm looking forward to our short-lived snow... if it even happens. But if it doesn't; no worries - the weather here is very fine. As long as one is OK with the constant wind...

Depending on the year, Florence, AZ is rated #1 or #2 in AZ for the lack of crime. However this is a bit of a joke. The state prison is in Florence, so the prison population counts towards the town's population, hence why there is little crime per capita.

I'll tell you what. I lived in Sunnyslope for several years, from 2000 through 2015, and if you're a single woman sitting at a bus stop, more often than not, they're gonna assume you're a "business lady", as a polite way of putting it. I lived behind the Fry's at Cave Creek and Hatcher, and I'd be walking home from the store or even in line at cutomer service, and get propositioned. I was not a young lady, mind you, I was from my early 50's up until I was 66! And I made every effort to dress as modestly as was possible for 110 degree temperatures. There was a space in the wall of the parking lot that you would go through to get to my apts., and There was a guy standing there wanted to put me to work. I told him I was a 60 year old grandma, but that still didn't stop him. Another time I was sitting in front of my apts. waiting for the neighborhood circulator to go to church on a Sunday morning. The guy who lived across the street, came across and also wanted to put me to work. I told him, "I'm going to church, for crying out loud, I'm not looking for a job, thank you," and I told him how old I was, but he still insisted on giving me his card. I'm not bragging, it's just that thy don't care. So yeah, Sunnyslope, especially in the area of Cave Creek, south of Cactus Rd., isn't the greatest area for single women living alone, especially if you're young and attractive or not even attractive...or young...just female! At least in my experience.

We frequented those areas on Cave Creek and on the other roads (Bell, Thunderbird, Cactus, etc a lot and it was safe then, Now I hear there's a bunch of gang activity around Greenway Rd. So sad what it's become. I'm sure when Rt 51 came thru that made it easier for criminals to escape if they committed something major. I left Phoenix in 1990 and haven't been back since 2015.

I lived in SouthCentral Phoenix for several years. Drugs, prostitution, and crime were common place on 7th Ave and I was within 3 minute walk to FBI building and Phoenix police building. The city tore down my entire block and just left it as an undeveloped lot. A lot of transient population bounce around the state due to its climate and proximity to the border. Madison St used to be location of St. Vincent kitchen and there was a shelter and homeless mail pick up down there also. Haven't been around there for a decade but it looks like it hasn't changed.

Part of the issue with any of the public transportation (light rail included) is a lot of the folks using it get a discounted monthly pass because they are low income/homeless and many have drug and/or alcohol issues. I'm a 4th generation native and have watched the decline over the years...it used to be SO much nicer here. The Sunnyslope area has been questionable since I was in H.S. back in 1978 (Maryvale is and has been sketchy for many, many years). The area around where Metro Center once was is very questionable these days and overrun with homeless. I think a lot of states are giving their homeless one-way bus tickets and they're heading to Phoenix and California but we've definitely seen homeless numbers increase exponentially since Covid. Rental rates increasing by 38% since 2019 haven't helped anyone but the landlords.

I live in Tucson AZ, I retired as a Parole Officer in Tucson and also covered the surrounding areas north of Tucson. Our biggest issues are Meth, Heroin and Fentanyl. Tucson is part of the drug corridor from Mexico. We don’t have near the crime rate of Phoenix. Meth has pretty much Infested everywhere especially in economically depressed small towns. Most of our Inmate population in our prisons are coming from the Phoenix area. Most of the legal gun owners in Arizona are not part of our criminal problem. Any place you allow homeless camps you are going to have major issues. Arizona’s crime problem does not compare with the east-coast but it is getting worse.

Been living in globe for 2 years now and it’s a fairly safe place. A good portion of the violent crime is either domestic abuse or property crime caused by the junkies down in the trailer park near auto zone (colloquially called “little Mexico”). There’s kind of an unspoken rule here that almost everyone is armed at any given time and everyone knows everyone so it’s much harder for locals to get away with things. There has been 2 shootings and 2 raids since I got here though (former felon inmate and a couple junkies making meth) as well as 2 fires believed to have been started by a meth lab fire. With the exception of the drug addicted population it isn’t to bad of a place to live.

I will leave with my standard Much love to everyone, everywhere! Please be safe!

I grew up in AZ and still live here. Don't forget about the ghetto love child of Phoenix and Tucson. People in Casa Grande are just bred a little differently there.

Coolidge which is close to Casa Grande is the 2nd highest murder city of AZ and yet I can walk the main avenue at 2 in the morning without any worries. I can't do that in a place like Maryvale. Let that sink in.

You just named 3, Yuma, South Tucson and Globe that I have stayed in or passed through on a 4 day motorcycle trip I am on. Thank goodness you didn’t include Payson, where I am staying tonight. Although a lady in a car came within 10 of hitting me as I crossed the main road at a controlled crossing at the traffic light. She did not want to yield to me walking across.

Payson used to be a great little mountain town of about 5000 but then big land developers came in and made it like a big city (now has about 17,000) The traffic is as bad as Phoenix.

@@SteviePaints Last time I passed thru there was in 2015 on the way to Phoenix and I don't look to take that route any more. The intersection of S.R. 87 and 260 was backed up a half a mile. 30 years before when I drove truck up there en route to Show Low, no such traffic existed.

I live in Scottsdale for more than 24 years, and I finally left because it seemed like the homeless were out of control and moving into Scottsdale even. I was safe in my gated community, but if I went to PHX it was another story. I moved to Tucson and I love it! The mountains are beautiful. I like the town and the surrounding areas and so much wildlife with magnificent views.

There are areas in Scottsdale that are as problematic as any in Phoenix, but for different reasons. There are areas in Scottsdale that attract predators like schools of fish attract sharks....

I’ve been in Phoenix since 76. The last especially 10years, Phoenix has turned into a dirty, rundown, dangerous and unappealing city. All parts of it. I would never move here now. It’s really sad as it used to be a great place to live.

I used to live in a very affluent area of Marin County in the San Francisco Bay area and we had a drug problem there. So I’m not sure if more job and economic opportunities is the answer. Rich people do drugs too. Maybe better education, enforcement, and mental health intervention programs is the answer?

Yes, the rich do drugs too, but not in public, especially in the streets. They don't have to.

Sunnyside is not near Grand Canyon University. GCU is at 35rh Ave & Camelback, it's not near light rail, bus travel would mean several transfers and traffic in Phoenix makes that a bit far for students to commute.
