The muscles you use to turn your head are connected to your shoulders and back. Under such extreme tension, any movement that weakens the stability and balance of your muscle system is dangerous. Try it yourself if you are not convinced.

If I remember correctly, it was said by him and his trainer that we was past his prime come the 2004 games and was not expecting to win Gold that year. But being the games were held in Greece, he had to compete to win at least a medal for himself and Greece.

He was competing with a shoulder injury. This is why many for us Greeks say that it was the bronze and for many of us it is his best medal because we thought he was out of the olympics before that last one. He was very tough.

I'm not a fan weightlifting but most of those athletes put one leg behind to finish the technique , but dimas just use his arms and legs to finish , I never see a weightlifter doing that.. Amazing

Roberto Salinas That's not as rare as you think... Also it does not avoid back injuries...You even push your lower back even more with these technique... The athlete just uses more power from his legs and eliminates his shoulders a bit... Athletes who have very strong legs use this technique...

They should have shown his attempt at gold and his symbolic action of leaving his shoes on the platform. Last lift of the day, last lift for gold, last lift of his career - fantastic man who reigned over 12 years...would anyone be able to beat him? (all eyes Ilya Ilyin)

huge respect from albania.i dont care if people say he is greek or albanian,he is one of the greatest ever.his coach when he was young in albania zef kovaci told him to not train for a year because the way the other trained him he would have 2 or 3 years left.he did so in order his body to change the structure, form and technice.without zef we wouldnt see probably pirro dhima in such level.

Actually, he had to move up in weight class and he was lifting MORE with each next Olympics. It was only his last Olympics where he was not at his best and he had suffered injuries that would have deterred any other competitors from even attempting to lift.

From Pirro Dhima Albanian name to Pirros Dimas Greek name: When he was born in the archives of the Albanian state his real registered name was Pirro Dhima. Then like many other Albanians he too jumped at the Greek authorities' offer of millions of dollars to change both their name and citizenship.
