One of the most effective deterrents I've ever seen was a sign on an antique shop in a small town in GA. It warned would be robbers that the place was booby trapped, and attempted forced entry could result in maiming and/or death. Now, whether it was or not, I do not know, but not too many would be willing to try it and find out.

My mom used to hide us and herself under the couch if she thought she heard gunshots. She grew up in Chicago, but this was in Hollywood, CA. In the 60s/70s. Still bad but not as bad as these days. This was right after the riots, the Manson murders, RFK, etc etc, so - anything could happen!

Ring should manufacture a door bell with an inconspicuous nozzle incorporated into the unit that would allow the homeowners to spray pepper spray from inside the home. It could be stored in a decorative wall hung device that would make it easy for the owner to replace the pepper spray canister as needed. The spray could also detain the thieves until Police arrived.

We had a guy come to our door selling something. My mom is in a wheelchair and had answered the door. He tried to get her to let him in to use the bathroom. Thankfully she said. Unbeknownst to him, it was for his safety not hers. She has a combat vet living with her with extreme ptsd and a son in law that grew up being highly into guns, and other...lets just say other activities. He turned his life around but he definitely protects his family. It would have been a very bad day for that guy.
