I once lived in Gillingham (Kent) but worked in London, so had to get an early train (at personal cost) to get to my job as a nurse. I could not claim expenses, nor food allowance or indeed anything. Claiming energy for a second property (which is increasing in value and whose interest on the loan to buy it has already been paid for by taxpayers) is theft 'pure and simple' No employee should be entitled to anything other than a salary appropriate to their role, which in the case of most back-benchers would be the average UK salary of circa £35000, simply put they are not worth anything more than that, unless lying, stealing and general dishonesty are paid traits.

All politicians care about is their perks, bonuses, status, influence and wealth. We don't matter to them. We are there to serve their whim and line their pockets. They do whatever they can do keep the machine in motion, all the while we (the cogs in said machine) are taxed to the hilt for the privilege of their existence.

Final post I promise!!! I work as a Paramedic and can say this will only add pressure on the already stretched Hospitals (experiencing winter pressures) and Social Care services due to vulnerable elderly getting call outs and identified as needing vulnerable care orders due to not coping at home (usually hypothermia and exacerbated arthritis, pneumonia/chest infections). There are no spaces for short term care home beds so they become 'bed blockers' in hospital because it is the social aspect (rather than mesical need) that means they can't be discharged home.

12K is basically a full year state pension that most pensioners have to live on. The single person tax free allowance is at that level, yet MPs get that Tax free for "Energy bills" ?? Let them eat cake.

That all wants stopping, what other job lets you claim expenses? They are paid way too much anyway. This country needs a new Cromwell to clear parliament and start again! And starmer with his war time glasses!! Does he think they make him look good? He makes me sick to my stomach how he is killing this country. Some of us care about our children and grandchildren, he makes me angry!

I'm 74, and to supplement my pension and limit my demand on society I work part time. My income from this community support work has not increased in 17 years, not even to follow inflation. And now I will lose the fuel allowance. Never sponged, never cheated, never grabbed, yet treated like dirt in my country of birth.
