A BBC News survey on attitudes to race in Arabic countries has shown that the vast majority of Egyptians don’t believe their country has a problem with discrimination - but this is contradicted by the experiences of some citizens.
Tahany Lasheen openly speaks out about her experiences of racism in her country, where she has frequently been targeted because of her darker skin.

Since when did caste became race? And stop that victim card bulshit everywhere because i am from general caste and trust me the only time i am reminded that i belong to 'so called' high caste is when our government system and education system asks to fill those caste category blocks lol. Me and my homies don't even care about what caste we belong to and we live like brothers. There is nothing like pure blood and less pure blood and i dunno where did you get your knowledge but sanatan dharma divided people on the basis of their work (karm) and it was the foolish people of future generations who turned it into a caste system. Plus if you truly believe in equality then what are your thoughts on economic status based reservation inspite of caste based reservation? I am curious coz my rich st/obc friends support economic status based reservation as they dont even need subsidies..

Some years ago, an Egyptian friend of mine-a man whose ancestors came from the south-was punched by a paler-skinned Egyptian in Cairo because he had addressed the man as “Ali” and not “Ali Bey”. The same friend was described as “that black man” by a hotel receptionist in a first class hotel in Aswan. This is not hearsay: I was present on both occasions. One can believe that things have changed since then, as they have in other places.

I am egyptian, i think why there is racial discrimination in egypt is because of the Europeans, yes it sounds crazy but Europe influenced the Beauty Standards of Egypt of the 1800s and 1900s because Egypt wanted to look as european as possible, if you go to Helioplis or Centre of cairo you would see hints of european architecture (Mostly Deteriorated due to lack of maintenance), we even got European Architects from Belgium to design our cities like baron empain or something, so we looked to Europeans as Beautiful, this influenced egypt throughout the 1900s.

OF COURSE, there is racism in Egypt, a country whose original inhabitants were very dark skinned. Whenever light skinned newcomers conquer lands, they force their so-called superiority onto those darker than them. Many in Egypt are so self-hating that they claim to be White being as Black as the soil. I know this to be so by family members who have experienced this. Even in the USA, Black-skinned AFRICAN EGYPTIANS are considered White by this racist government. This theft of their identity is so profound that the prestigious University of Chicago refers to them as "Orientalists" (i.e., The Oriental Institute Museum) not Africans. Deranged and Racist.
