Seeing these videos brings tears to my eyes and brings back a lot of memories for me. I was in the US Navy, 18 months overseas and hadn't been home to see my family for over 2 years. Great surprise and reunion I will never forget.

My Dad was a pilot in the Vietnam war. He was 39 had 4 boys and 2 girls and a pregnant wife when he was deployed. Dad left in August, my youngest brother was born in February, Dad came home in June. I was the second oldest and I was 12 years old when he returned. It was quite a reunion. We were on the tarmac with the other families when the plane pulled in. I remember us running towards him as he walked across the tarmac. I was so proud he was my father. He looked like a hero in his uniform with all his ribbons. That uniform hangs in my closet. He died 10 years ago. I miss him, and his wonderful laugh very much.

Everyone of these reunions made me smile, laugh, and cry. I've been in the shoes of a mother of a soldier waiting for my son to come home on leave. It was joyous when he came home and sorrow when he had to go back! I cried for a couple days or so after he would leave.

I spent 27 years in the military and was deployed to the Middle East 3 times. Leaving your loved ones is never easy but the reunion is always special. Each of my deployments were at least a year long

This hit me hard, I know the feeling all to well, many times I had to leave the family just to have these kind of meetings every time I returned from deployment. This brought back so many memories and tears. I barely got to see my kids grow up, I would leave and they would be in a stroller, and I would come back and they would be walking and talking. It broke my wife's heart when I came back from a deployment and asked her who the little boy was that was with her, because I did not even recognize my own son, because he was in a stroller when I left and when I returned he was walking and talking! He grew and changed so fast that I did not know my own son.

That's a good feeling. However, as retired Army CSM E-9 that just retired in 2019 I think about the 11 Soldiers that I lost on my 2011 deployment in Babil Iraq. Those kids never made it. I think about that everyday and catch myself crying often because we did everything in our power to bring those kids home and you have to tell their parents that their son or daughter are not coming back.

With tears in my eyes I'm remembering all the times My Mom and 3 sisters would meet the ship as the gangway was deployed. He was the Commander of the ship in the US Navy, Pacific Fleet. As Kids in the late 50's we got to go onboard 1st with an Escort to the Bridge. WOW These are the times you NEVER forget. Dinners on board at the Captain's Table. All the benefits. Now the TEARS.

A mother’s love exceeds all over forms of love. Her bounds of worrying have no end. She will always be concerned for her children while they are gone, away and in anger. So when her children returns to her safely, the mother will express emotions more powerful than any other human expression, only rivaling that of the mixed pain and joy of when she first brought her children into the world years ago. However, a dog seeing his friend and owner return from deployment after years of being apart far exceeds the mother’s love by a margin so vast it would be like comparing a grain of sand to the entire ocean.

I wish I had Filmed when I came home for 2 weeks from Iraq in 2004. Aside from myself only a friend of mine Who drove me to my parents house, and my sister knew I was coming home. My parents did not suspect a thing. Until I knocked on the front door. My step dad Answered the door as it was after the time they usually go to bed. he just stood there shocked for a bit then asked me. "what are you doing here?" My mother was the most excited I had ever seen her. Best surprise ever. Unfortunately it was never recorded. I tried to do the same thing on my 3rd deployment but they figured things out when my sister went and got a rental car.

My fam hits waaaay different than these lovely reactions. As a Marine In the late 80's and after almost 2 years in the Afghan mountains I finally made it home.
