I used to think Vlad was just a bloodthirsty psychopath as well when I first heard of him. Then when i actually did research on the man, the picture that research painted instead was that of a man who had his back against the wall for nearly his entire life, and was willing to go to any length possible to protect his people and country from the Ottoman Empire.
@kevinnorwood87822 жыл бұрын
@SoliDeoGloria 07 Yes. Romania sees him as their greatest national hero, and for good reason. While everyone else was making secret deals with the Ottoman Sultanate, Vlad refused to submit to them. He strengthened his country's economy, removed those who were abusing their power (the Boyars), and many other actions to try and give his people a fighting chance against the Turks. But at the same time, he didn't play by anyone's rules except his own, and this caused him to have enemies on BOTH sides.

They didn't rule over the Holy Roman Empire, they reigned, due to the hundreds of independent principalities, marquisates, archbishoprics, free cities and electors. Not even the Emperor Charles V could break this political logjam. The later empire was enlightened by current European standards, and I'm not saying this because I'm a fan of theirs. I don't agree with the narrative that the habsburgs as a whole were bad. Charles I of Austria, among others was actually pretty good. He was opposed to the Austro-Hungarian empire getting involved in WW1 and secretly held peace talks with France. The only reason they failed was because Italy made claims to Austro-Hungarian territory, which he saw as invalid. He saw WW1 for what it really was, a game played by other rulers at the expense of their peoples.

Absolute fact that Vlad Tepes. aka Vlad Dracula, aka Vlad the Impaler, was indeed a hero to his native Transylvania. He confronted the Muslim Horde of the Ottoman Empire that were invading his land and in an attempt to dissuade further invasion he impaled a vast number of the enemy on pikes lining the road into the castle. Some reports were of some 10k people. Then once deposed and regaining his Throne from his Treasonous kin he then impaled the political enemies of the region.

However if you mention Attila than Genghis Khan should also be mentioned. also even Drakula had his good sides for example many Romanians think of him as somewhat of a hero. he protected the country from Turks and while nobles didn't like him lower classes did. Now he should be mentioned here because he still did lots of evil things although not all of the things he was said to have done. but why are no Roman emperors on this list. Uhhhh I think I have to disagree when it comes to Ahkenaten. He wasn't really an evil King since the treatment of the builders of his city of Armana (called Akhenaten in his lifetime) wasn't that out of the ordinary looking throughout previous Dynasties of Egypt and other countries. As for his reign, he wasn't an evil Pharaoh, more... inefficient. He is credited as being the world's first monotheist therefore he more or less didn't put much thought or care into anything that didn't have to do with his mission of building his new religion of Atenism. One example was him losing lands that previously belonged to Egypt to the Mittani, an empire which Egypt easily could have overpowered except... he didn't make any effort into getting back because it wasn't a priority to him. Again, Akhenaten wasn't evil... just neglectful towards his people, country and matters of state.

You are thinking of the legend that Richard 3rd killed his brothers sons after imprisoning them in the Tower.1.Until the death of Bess of York,the custom was for future kings to reside in the Tower before their coronation as it was a royal Residence.2.There is no proof the lads were killed.They could've been sent abroad for example.Edward was being cared for by a doctor at the time of their disappearance.3.Judging by some new evidence,it's possible Edward was taken to Devon to live in obscurity & safety on land owned by his half brother.4.And Perkin Warbeck could well have been young Richard.His obvious Plantagenet looks were destroyed by henchmen before his murder,along with the tragic son of Clarence.5.Henry VII was definitely a killer of young lads,unlike Richard,so very much maligned on evidence given by Shakespeare,writing for a Tudor queen & 'Saint'Thomas More who was only a child at the time & brought up in the service of Bishop Morton,an enemy of Richard's.Thomas was such a saint,he had a rack in his house to 'persuade' heratics to renounce their beliefs.Certainly the Scottish King believed Perkin to be young Richard,as he gave his cousin(?)as his bride.H7 must've had something going for him though,as his marriage turned out a happy one.I am glad for Bess,she & her family went through so much.May she & all her kin RIP.

It's possible that much of the Old Testament was constructed by a single king, who created the cult of Yahweh to unite his people into an ethnostate apart from their Canaanite brethren and neighbors- evidence is that they were actually Canaanite themselves and the entire Egyptian captivity and Exodus were made up. The evidence also says that Baal and Asherah were real gods who were worshiped at the time, they were most likely demonized for the sake of this new religion. Basically, what Catholicism did to most of the Pagan Gods in the areas it took over in and what Akhenaten tried to do in Egypt. The whole "God versus the devil" thing came from Zoroastrianism, which they encountered during the Babylonian Captivity. There's no evidence that David had a grand kingdom- he may have existed, it seems that the fictional characters were often based on real names of past rulers, but there's no evidence of his kingdom being large or great for the time or region. The creation stories in Genesis draw from a few different sources, one being the Enuma Elish about the Babylonian god Marduk. Eve's creation has hints of a Babylonian goddess named Nintu, who was also worshiped in Sumeria. So a lot of Babylonian influences, but probably not exclusively. Of course, there was a lot of cultural interchange, so it can be hard to know which exact source a thing came from.
