Both are good. I prefer the Minilab's keys but the pads on the MPK Mini are better for finger drumming.

You can get a soft synth like Serum, Sylenth1, Pigments and look for presets or learn how to create the sounds. Look for sound design tutorials. Also use a DAW like Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro, etc. A real DAW.
