I’m confused on your comment about wireless boom mic’ing with this device. It doesn’t have wireless transmission right?
@JustinPorterMediaАй бұрын
@@ac1320 traditionally, if you want to use a pro shotgun mic, you must run an xlr cable from the mic to the camera or a recorder with phantom power. Most recorders are huge and can’t be mounted easily on a camera. This eliminates tbe need for bulky recorders or xlr cables AND you can use it as a boom mic for interviews entirely cableless 🙌🏾
@ac1320Ай бұрын

For anyone who thinks 32-bit float is a get out of jail free card, just know - you still need to protect your capsule from excessive SPL because you can't fix distortion as a result.
@LennertKАй бұрын
And for very low output mics such as the SM7b or RE20 you may still get a very noisy recording if you have to crank up the gain in post. This depends on the preamps in this thing, which we know nothing about after watching the video. I can do 32bit float rec on my sennheiser SKP transmitter, but when capturing low volume vocals on those low output dynamic mics it gets much more noisy compared to when I set the gain right on my Zoom F4 field recorder in 24bit (not to bash the SKP, it's great and clearly not intended for that use case, this is just another example why 32bit float doesn't mean "never think about audio again").
@prOkrEAtАй бұрын
Dude. What are you recording? And yeah, should know your mics spl limits. Also low gain can be noisy... Which a LOT of preamps have problems with. Where things like cloud lifters come in handy.
@fiercesound2138Ай бұрын
24 bit is more then enough if you understand gain structure. But also as you said mics have a maximum SPL go over it and 32 bit won’t save you.

All of my Tascam recorders have a problem with staying in sync with video, so the big question is how ACCURATE is the time code in this thing. I've had a similar problem with the accuracy of the battery gauges, so I'm also wondering if the 10 or 15 hour battery life estimates match the battery gauge. In other words, does it look like the batteries are almost dead several hours before they run out? And while this may not be an issue with wedding recordings, I'd also wonder if this has the same high pitched buzz that plagued the X8, which makes it worthless for some sound effect recordings.

Unfortunately, all these companies have no incentive to play nice with each other when it comes to wireless BT Timecode. They want to make money. Some consumer cameras, most notable the Fujifilm X-H2S and Nikon Z8/9 support UltraSync BLUE (now Atomos AirGLU) natively. Its the Wild West of BT Timecode right now.

@@jessejayphotography So true, but it's still frustrating. They want our money, but kind of work against us. We, as a result, are left struggling and spending so much time trying to find workarounds just to make all these pieces of equipment work together. I really wish there were more universal standards across industries that all manufacturers would support.
