In Ovechkin era is harder to score a goals than in Gretzky era.

I always hear people say, "Gretzky wouldn't have had those numbers if he played today." That may be true, and we will never know. What we do know is that 100s of other players played in "Gretzky's Era," and they didn't put up nearly the same numbers that he did. It's not like he played in that era by himself.

All what yous saying is just excuses. In Gretzky time NHL wasn't the best league in the world like now with all those players from around the world playing in it. And the hockey itself changed , it's harder to score now. When USSR team was winning Canada some of their players were half hockey players and half football players and still they were winning alot out of "professional" Canada team😭 hockey in that time was a joke ..

Both Stastny and Mikita were slovakians but they were born in former Czechoslovakia. Mikita moved to US as a child in the 1940s and Stastny to Canada in the early 80s. Later on Mikita got US citizenship and Stastny got Canadian citizenship. In international level Stastny represented Czechoslovakia, Canada and later on Slovakia. Slovakia become independent country in mid 90s. When Mikita scored his hat tricks he was American. I do not know when Stastny become Canadien but most likely Stastny scored most of his hat tricks as a Canadian. Which flag should be used here? Bondra's father was Slovakian and he was born in Ukraine which was part of Soviet Union back then. Most likely he represented only Slovakia in international level. He may have scored some of his hat tricks as a citizen of Soviet Union / Czechoslovakia / Slovakia. Mogilny, Bure and Ovechkin were born in former Soviet Union. Bure and Mogilny most likely represented both SU and Russia. Ovechkin is younger and has only represented Russia in international level. There is a Russian flag for them.

Brett Hull was born and trained in Canada but chose to represent the U.S. Owen Nolan, Robyn Regehr and Dany Heatly were not born in Canada, but came to Canada as infants, and represented Canada internationally. Olaf Kolzig was born in South Africa, grew up and was trained in Canada, and represented Germany because he never applied for Canadian citizenship, and his parents were born in Germany.

Ovi is one, your idol 99 is number two… if scoring empty netters was that easy, everyone in the league would be pumping those away 🤡

Highly unlikely. He is in the twilight of career, may not score more than 20 this season.

naw, he will break the goal record, but this one would be quite difficult to pull off in a modern league

I was going for sarcasm,no one ever touching this record, and also how fast he got to 500 goals. Ovechkin will have the higher totals, only because Gretzky started concentrating on assists, and didn't shoot the puck half as much after idk,89-90' season ish. Mind boggling how far ahead in first place he is. Dominated so much only Jordan compares. Somewhat.

Most of the players began their careers in early 80's...where scoring was up considerably. From 1989 to about 1995 goal scoring was up almost 2 goals be game. Ie. Inflated numbers
