A bunch of this characters would be mid tiers in other entries, it's just that the higher you in the tier list the crazier the characters get. For every good thing someone like Zelda has there's 6 or 7 things PAC-MAN has that are similar or better. It's a testament of how better balanced fighting games are this days.

I mained Mewtwo and was solidly in mid to high gsp elite smash (14.6m+), and then once he was put in D tier I couldn't win anymore and fell out. Tier lists are everything, and determine whether a character is good or not.

Tier lists are almost exclusively for top-level play and majors/ supermajors. Outside of that you can play as whoever you want and get some results if you're talented enough.
