This is a song from a man who understands breakups, who's able to express, in 5 minutes, what we all have been through, better than we ever could ourselves. Proof that Dylan is a lyrical genius.

@@deadreckoning6288 No. And also the claim of soul is an outdated notion shown to be wrong scientifically, but it’s still a powerful metaphor for people of faith. There’s no organ called a soul. For this to be true, "Disease of Conceit" (a truly terrible Bob song) would have to be better than, say, "Substitute" by The Who, (one of the greatest pop/rock songs of all time), so this claim is clearly nonsense.

This song describes perfectly where I am emotionally, post divorce, in what would’ve been our 30th year of marriage, 32nd year together. I knew something was wrong. You always do, even if you can’t put your finger on it. New Years Day, 2017, he tells me he doesn’t love me anymore. There’s no one else in the picture, he just fell out of love. Don’t ever believe that bullshit. Of course there was another woman. It was like no pain I’ve ever experienced physically, literally the worst pain of my life. Two more years of bullshit, until New Years Day 2019 I was free. New Years Day 2021. I don’t think about him anymore...most of the time.

I wont go into details but I had been suspicious that there actually was someone else for a couple of years leading up to her leaving. Never found out if I was right or just picking up bad vibes for other reasons. Though I still think I may have been close to the truth. I was broken at the time but now I am glad it’s over. I have been fascinated by his sound since 1964, only recently had the time to catch up with the massive catalogue that was not on the 30 or so albums I did have. There are so many unknown gems, "Call letter blues" & Abandoned love from the bootlegs, really should have got more credit. the list is long! some times a song you have known for years suddenly jumps out and amazes me too. 50 years and it`s still fresh. Happy birthday Bob.
