Dutch Van Der Linde that spitting out discs problem is caused when you force disk in or out, So when you wanna put a disc in, gently bring it up to the drive and when it takes it in let go of the disc. When you are taking a game out eject it wait until its fully ejected (it won’t fall out), Then grab it and put it in the case or wherever.

The importance of cleaning the discs from the centre to the outside is because scratches from the centre to the outside (radial scratches) don’t stop the disc from being read. Circular scratches on the other hand can prevent the disc from being read. I’ve done this experiment myself with an old CD and it’s actually amazing how many deep radial scratches you can put on a disc and it still be readable. On the other hand one circular scratch at the same radius as the track on the disc can easily make the disc unreadable at that point. By cleaning the disc from centre to outside means if you do end up lightly scratching the disc when cleaning it won’t critically damage the disc.

Speaking on disc robustness .... I was friends with the manager of a large video rental outlet back in the day when they were plentiful. DVDs in the rental world take a real beating and scratches are very common. Most DVDs won't play properly with a significant scratch on the surface. Every night before closing, my manager friend would take a small stack of scratched discs and run each one of them across a circular power buffing wheel used to wax and polish cars. He said it worked beautifully and the DVDs played like they were new again. He had done this for years and never damaged a single disc :-)

About initialization from someone who works for a GameStop competitor that actually specializes in trade-ins: We do this for you at the end of each trade no matter what. We assure customers that their system data is formatted in case they are wary. But for the sake of efficiency, we recommend that those trading in not to initialize before bringing it in because we test the console and don’t want to have to take an extra 30 minutes to hook up to our internet just to set it up again and download a game to test. Some think they are doing us a favor by initializing early but this is not the case because our trading protocol has us test each and every system no matter how pristine it looks. GameStop does the same thing, so this is only applies if you take your system to a place to be sold. But if you are concerned, take it up with the buyer if you aren’t selling privately.

I usually don't have an active PS+ account, so I have a couple of USB sticks/thumb-drives to backup save data. Generally it's good to use the rule of 3 for backups; original + backup 1 + backup 2. So even if you utilise PS+ cloud saves, it wouldn't be a bad idea to also backup to a USB stick too.

Back at ps3 my country did not have the ps plus service yet so I ended up creating an american one to activate plus to enjoy the monthly games as they were quite valuable at the time. But that meant i couldnt actually save my game data on the cloud from main account. Then ofc the only issue my ps3 ever had was a corrupted hdd, couldnt fix it at all inside the ps3 system so i had to replace it. Lost every freaking save i ever had, sad times. Didnt feel like playing for months. So careful if you guys run plus outside of your main as the cloud service can save you from some future headache. Maybe the hdd data could be savagable if i sent to some tech assistance, but after replacing i felt it was not worth it anymore, life goes on...
