My first computer was a DELL that my dad brought back from a business trip and it came with Windows 7 or Vista, I don't even remember, but until last year it worked very well.

My dad paid about $2000 at the time knowing that computers were going to be the way of the future. I miss my dad he was the best dad ever!😭

lucky you my first computer was a Vic 20. 4K ram and a Tape drive. the first computer that I learned on was an I don't know. We had a Dumb terminal in school. we used a modem to call it. there was a paper print out for the screen and saved our programs on a paper Tape. God I am old.

My VERY first computer was a Timex Sinclair. It had 1K of memory. NO drive storage, not even tape. You entered a simple program of no more than 1,000 total characters. When you turned it off you could not save the program. Monitor was a TV. It cost $99 assembled or $49 if you wanted to assemble it yourself. Not very practical, but that's how I learned. My computer #2 was a Radio Shack CoCo. Still have it.

Basically, all computers are clones they were based on the IBM 8088 processer even the ones made today. So, Compaq, HP, Hewlett Packard and ECT. were all IBM clones.

Still using an HP slimline w7 from 12/2011, it is on 24/7/365, only real problem I had with it was the power supply went bad after five years, replaced it and had no problems since, only upgraded the cpu, and the ram!

Hmm, but you know there has been no security support for years. Each time you connect to the Internet, you are easy prey for advanced hackers. Maybe you don't notice this because they use your computer as a relay. Only when the police knock on your door and ask you about internet crimes done with your PC, will you find out?

This chart starts after the death of the Tandy line. But if it had started in about 87 it would have had to include those. They outsold many other brands and nearly bought Compaq when Compaq was having a rough patch. Lots of other great brands that weren't on here since it started in 96 and many had come and gone by then.

It enabled me to learn to use Microsoft Windows XP Professional like a computer technician, and it had Microsoft Office XP Professional that enabled me to work higher than just a keyboard specialist (that is, a typist with strong keyboarding skills). In 2017, I bought my first Dell microcomputer, but replaced it with an advanced Dell microcomputer that works great, as you may read my accurately-typed comment. I call my microcomputer my Keyboard, because it is my powerful typewriter. I enjoy using it a lot. Keep the shows coming through!🙂

@@bobmorane2082 Yeah, it ended with Amiga. MAC were never relevant. PC were alone the last 30 years after Commodore went bankrupt. Atari ST were nowhere looked at a competitor either, MAC were never a competitor to anything. It were vs Commodore from 1982-1994-95. In 1980's there were also ZX Spectrum, BBC Micro, Dragon 64 and other in on the computer war.

My first computer was assembled by Positivo (from Brazil). It was quite a good computer, it came with Windows Vista but we asked to install Windows XP and then Windows 7. It worked very well until a few years ago when we needed to clean it up from time to time because of bad RAM contacts. Today we have 3 laptops (2 Acer and one Samsung) and a desktop made by Pichau (another Brazilian assembler).

Around 2003, IBM sold its PC devision to Lenovo, thats how it popped up in the chart. Also around the same time, India became a consumer power for computers. Around 2012, smart phones became very smart, and sell of desktops declined, leading "others" brand to fall behind, as big chunk of sales were laptops. I really want to buy an "others" computer, but I cant find it anywhere. Eould someone kindly help?

my first was a 286 in a draw . built for g m called the cams machine . about $25000. crazy huh. my first computer at home was a tandy 486sx with a 120 meg hd, 512k of video ram, and 4 meg of ram. later i added a total of 20 meg of ram, a second hd, an ati video card ,a sound blaster 16 sound card and a 2 speed cd- rom. than an upgrade to the cpu to a 486dx-75. what a power house!! hahaha 😂

My 1st computer was a BBC Micro from 1981, from the early age of home computers. I don't remember what was the manufacturer of my first 486 PC, but the first PC that I bought with my own money was a Dell Vostro 1310 in 2009 that came with Windows Vista. It still works to this day with Ubuntu 16 (I think) on it. Maybe if I get a more basic distro, I can put something more recent on it, but I don't use this one any more

We have Lenovo PCs at work and they're really good quality, have good warranty support, and it's easy to install the BIOS/Driver updates with the software tools they provide. Personally, if I'm going to get my own laptop I usually get a Razer one because I like the build quality. I like the their trackpads a lot. If I'm going to build a desktop I usually pick parts from between ASUS, Gigabyte, and MSI.

My first laptop was a Others Press any key to boot from CD or DVD, and it costed me $3! The Press any key to boot from CD or DVD laptop was great, it came with 20MB of RAM, 3.5KB of storage, and I ran OthersOS on it. It's the best OS bc it only takes 0.1KB of storage.

9 months late but since you asked: My first 'computer' was an Amstrad PCW8256. My first Windows based computer was a Dell Optiplex with 4 GB of ROM and 256 MB of RAM. It had an Intel Pentium 4 (2.4 GHz) processor, which sounded big at the time. I also had no idea how close Apple came to falling out of the game altogether, Jesus.

As someone who has worked on computers not professionally, Lenovo kind of deserves the top spot. I rarely ever think "this is bullshit" looking at a Lenovo, but I think that all the time looking at an HP, Acer, or Apple. And Dell is usually fine as long as you stick to their office products. Don't mess with their stuff marketed for home users. That's kind of good advice all around for any brand, and of course buy used not new.

Is it for laptops only or for the all desktop and notebooks personal computers?

I've PCs Desktop since 1988 and I never bought pre-assembled PCs. Today, there is somone that buy desktop pc branded? They're all laptop.

My first laptop was a Dell, and every one I've had after has been HP

286 16Mhz with a 44MB MFM hard drive and a green monitor. The monitor displayed in green only... which I thought looked nicer than the Red ones. Oh... and 1MB of ram running DOS 4.1. First upgrade was to put in an "Adlib" sound card... :)

Did you add in the 8081 math coprocesser? Had that on my first 286 along with the 40 mb hard drive. All that space, how will it ever fill up?
