My first quilt, i saw on a tv show... not a beginner quilt, i had the large ruler, rotary cutter, and mat. I did not know about 1/4"seam. But it still worked. This is pre-you tube. You tube is a massive quilting community.

Great Q&A. I follow Kimberly’s methods of quilting as close as possible. I would never have attempted a quilt without her tutorials.

Great answers. Best advice is at 3:44 in video to insure accurate quarter inch. I always point beginners to FQS Ultimate Beginner’s Quilt video series! Make that one, and you’ll prepared to make any beginner to advanced beginner quilt. Thank you, FQS!

Good morning from Wheaton, IL. Great beginner and for experience quilter questions and answers.. the biggest game changer for me once i understood there is a difference between ironing and pressing.. quilt pieces and block were more squared and less wonky!! 😊

Hi Kimberly, Love your site and have ordered fabric from your company and was highly satisfied. I have a question if you could help me out. I was gifted a huge vintage fabric haul and am planning to use it to make quilts for my sisters. Problem is fabrics smell musty and need washing but....most fabric is already cut into strips and pieces that will fray when I wash. Can I just sew into my quilt blocks and wash quilt after? Way too many pieces to zig zag stitch to keep from fraying. Thanks!!

A Quilting Life BOM 2023. BOM = Block of the month. On the main screen, beneath the video are words then the word: more... select the word more..., just tap the screen It takes you to a "Description " box. This is where you will find Sew Much information... most KZbin creators add essential information here and usually say: " find more information in the description box below the video". This is what they mean. FQS Usually puts the the name of each Quilted/counted cross stitch/crochet/needlework design/object here, as seen on the screen, behind Kimberly. Using this Description box, when you scroll down, again seeing the word more.. , you will see their specific information listing the two quilts. Moonbeans is the navy blue one, free design to raise $ for Texas Make a Wish Foundation (an annual FUNDRAISER with $50,000.00 as the goal raised) with the blue hyperlink to the FQS SHOP and page. The other quilt will be denoted the same way: name of the quilt then a blue hyperlink. Just touch the hyperlink on the screen and it will take you to the page on the FQS shop. Scroll down to find the fabric line used, size, and lots and lots more information. Hope you find what you asked for!

My first quilt was a 9 patch . No rotary cutter or no ruler. Just scissors and the pattern I saw on price is right. And scrappy from clothing scraps from sun dresses I made from my girls.

How do I prevent one row or two rows in a block from being stretchier ? This seems to happen more when I am assembling a star made with flying geese or half-square triangles. The stretchier row(s) does not align with the other row or rows causing the seams not to butt, Or one row in the block is about 1/8" shorter on both sides. Thanks.
@FatQuarterShopTX4 ай бұрын
Hello Nevah! You could try starching or a heavier starch before you cut to keep the blocks from stretching.
