This video was hugely helpful as someone who is headed to Madeira and who gets jelly legs when too high…those metal steps look horrific!

They were definitely the worst part of the hike for me, especially as you can see straight down through them 😳. But if you can brave it then it is so worth it ✌

I will send your video to my friends. Thank you for showing the difficulties. We really want to go on this hike. We are 60+ and we know that it will be difficult))) But it’s so beautiful...

It is a beautiful hike, well worth it. Make sure you take a torch for the tunnels, they can have some deep puddles 😊

i did the same hike in July and i had a little laugh to myself at your partners comment about still going down. i really felt your pain pain there and the never ending stairs really brought back some memories 😂its the hardest hike I've ever done (I'm not fit!) but it was worth every step!! my vid is here somewhere. 👍

It just seemed to go down forever until it went up, and it went up quick lol. Personally I found the metal stairs the hardest part both mentally and physically. Some of the best experiences come from the most difficult journeys ✌

I'm not great with heights either, but am going to Madeira in a few months. After watching your video, I'm going to tackle this hike weather permitting.

It is quite disconcerting in some places but I would do it again, definitely worth fighting your fears for the views. Let us know how you find it 😊

Thank you for the video. I share a both a love of hiking and a fear of heights. I, for one, could feel your anxiety just the way you were using your hand animist the wall or steps in a couple of places. I am going to be there at the beginning of May. While I really want to do this hike for the beauty, I am not sure I could make it. Is there a wise bail and head back point before the worst height challenges? Great vid and thanks for the candor!

It will really depend upon how you do the hike, we were dropped off at one end and collected at the other, so had little choice to bail. I would suggest starting at the point we were collected and go to the summit from there if you have any doubts. 😊
