Jeff has been playing the piano for close to 50 years and has been described as the happiest musician in the business. He had a musical residency at a dinner club in Los Angeles for twenty years or when he wasn't filming. This track was recorded for his first album "The Capitol Studios Sessions." They recreated the club environment in studio and recorded live performances. This video exists because they recorded this and other performances as a pilot of sorts--for a proposed television/streaming show featuring Goldblum. Haley and Jeff met for the first time a few days before this performance. "My Baby Just Cares For Me" was originally recorded in 1930. It's been covered by famous artists throughout the decades. He's known as the happiest musician. Mildred Snitzer, apparently, was a friend of his parents and was the first name he thought of when he was looking for a name for his band. Jeff often brings a guest singer on when he plays, but he does sing as well.

First time listening to you react and I'm grinning from ear to ear. You get it. When you said you spend your life entertaining people in club like this, I smiled. LoL, Jeff is just always the enjoyable Jeff. Haley is a world class vocalist that can be sultry just being her and standing and delivering. She is an anachronism for sure. Her stage presence is out of this world. Try her with Post Modern Jukebox and "Creep", "Black Hole Sun", "Love fool", and many more, Post Modern Jukebox spins popular songs back in style to the 20's-60's. She is fiercely independent of her music career.

You need to listen to Haley sing Creep with Post Modern Jukebox, it will blow you away!! They take Creep and arrange it into a 30’s jazz standard. Haley took 3rd on American Idol in 2010. Best singer that year IMO, but it was a popularity contest in reality!!

However, she inexplicably refuses to sign a deal because unlike everyone else, she tried to negotiate her own record deal, as opposed to hiring a professional business manager to negotiate a record deal and to manage her day to day career for her. As she obviously didn't have the first clue what she was doing and still doesn't.

Also, i don’t know details but I’ve heard of a couple of female artists who had deals but they weren’t good ones and are now happier on their own. I am far from an expert but probably the biggest drawback of not happening a deal is not having promotion. I don’t know Haley’s story but I’ve heard other stories where the record company wanted to change the image and sound of young women.

She's in demand in the music world and works consistently, has her own KZbin channel, and goes on tour. Haley has carved out a fabulous life for herself. Would she be a household name if she signed a contract? Sure. But she obviously doesn't care about being famous or insanely wealthy.

Why are you so amazed that a person could be a musician? Who said he was going to sing? Lots of actors are very multitalented. He does play the piano. He is chording to support the other soloists. He did not play the wrong chord - you sound like an unseasoned jazz listener. He played a diminished 7th. He makes those faces all the time.

great reaction arab man.... jeff goldblum is great but the real gem here is haley reinhart. she maybe the best vocalist and performer of our time (certainly the most underrated). i think what is so phenomenal about haley is not just her amazing silk to sandpaper voice but also her character and soul that she puts into the performances. check out her amazing work with postmodern jukebox (aka pmj) who takes current popular songs and completely re-imagines them vintage (1920s to 1960s) in the music itself and style of the performances that actually take you back in time. they have a variety of good vocals but haley with pmj is exceptional. haley/pmj collaboratons "creep", "all about the bass", "seven nations army", and "don't speak" highly recommended. haley's solo career is also superb. she has 4 LPs including: "listen up", "better", "what's that sound" and "lo-fi soul" and a recent EP "off the ground" for which she is currently on tour. her lack of mass popularity and industry recognition is primarily due to her resistance to major labels in order to maintain creative control of her music. this significantly limits exposure to tv, radio, etc. her biggest hit is "can't help falling in love with you" that was created and promoted by Extra Gum for an award winning commercial campaign. it now has well over 425m views and reached double platinum status. it is stunning and frequently described as what love sounds like here: (kzbin.info/www/bejne/laaxoXiYqZyqldE ) 😎

Hailey Reinhart got her start when she was a contestant on the tenth season of American Idol and placed third. She went on and made an album with Casey Abrams, who also was a contestant that same year and they both were vocalists and musician for a time with Post Modern Jukebox. She, I believe, is very underrated, her vocals are amazing. She should have won American Idol that season.

I am going to resist the strong temptation to dislike this and move on when you make the comment that Jeff is not a 'seasoned' musician'. What you are seeing is a bit of 'schtick' added in to the live performance because he's also a seasoned actor. Jeff has plenty of jazz chops. You can take my word for it, or you could listen to his album (on Capitol Records). There is a healthy portion of 'real jazz' on it. BTW The Mildred Schnitzer Orchestra is named after a childhood neighbor of Jeff's just because he liked the name.

Haley sounds utterly amazing, but why all the shade for Jeff? He's a very accomplished jazz pianist, and was doing exactly the right thing--playing a bit of rhythm piano while other instruments and the vocalist were featured as soloists. Had he taken a turn soloing in this piece (that's a thing in jazz), I'm sure his ability on the keys would have been much more visible, but he did the right thing to serve the music, allowing the vocalist to shine, and giving another instrument a solo in the middle. His ability to serve what the song calls for makes him a pretty consummate musician in my book. It's the same thing Dimash does, and is the mark of a true artist. Genuine masters serve the music, not the other way round.
