This is the GBA port, and the GBA has a notoriously bad sound chip, so it ended up making the music sound different.

@@WSMindmaker The GBA doesn't have a soundchip, lol. All the audio comes out from the CPU... at least the sampled audio. The PSG audio (8-bit-like sounds for the uncultured) comes from the internal Game Boy soundchip in the GBA.

@@solarflare9078 There are actually two (one for each stereo channel) extra DAC converter sound channels that the GBA has, called the Direct Sound channels. The problem is that there's no dedicated audio processing hardware, so the CPU handles all audio mixing and processing, INCLUDING playing more than 2 samples at a time on those channels (its software mixed by that point), which gets bottlenecked at the final mixing stage, resulting in poor dynamic range making a flat, fuzzy sound. The GBA's CPU wasn't awful (it's stronger than the SNES's), but most games prioritize everything else over the music quality, which demands more space to store all the samples. This can't be fixed by brute force either. So many games are stuck with the "classic" GBA crunchy audio. The best demostration of this is how sounds in the Mega Man Zero GBA versions sound vs their DS port counterparts. The DS one is way better and its not even because they remastered the audio.
