This performance was commissioned by Totally Thames and The European Commission for the Thames Festival 2018.
Stories and songs follow the river Danube from source to mouth: fragments of Hungarian myth; music inspired by Bartok; a Romanian fairytale; Serbian folk songs; Bulgarian legends; fragments of German epic Nibelungen; medieval troubadour song composed by King Richard 1st; tales of Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius with his 'Mediations' set to music, and of course Strauss’s Blue Danube! The performance is a love song to Europe, celebrating the vibrant histories, cultures, languages and heritage of this vast river.
