I think of this song representing someone who is really socially awkward, and hates being around people, so they "ghost" them. However, this person falls in love, and so they come out of "hiding", and they are "leaving unhaunted" Meaning they aren't going to ghost them, and treat them badly like they have done to everyone else. The other person falls in love with the "Ghost" as well, but now the ghost is explaining how they (the ghost) are toxic and how they (person) deserve better , and is afraid they are going to end up hurting the person they care about most. So instead of being in a relationship, the ghost loves from a distance to avoid hurting the other person.

i’ve decided to ghost one of my best friends for 2 years. part of it was because of my anxiety, but i think it was because i’ve changed, i didn’t like who i was and i didn’t want her to find out that i’ve changed since i last saw her. then i realized i’m literally ghosting her and that’s a real fucked up thing to do, so i wrote her a whole ass text paragraph explaining why i’ve been ghosting her because she deserved an explanation. she’s been understanding.🙂
