My take on this song is that Ana is the one singing about her past wishing she could go back to her old self. Thinking of the way things were before she started struggling with self harm and suicidal thoughts (slit my wrists and watch the blood evaporate). Thinking about her previous suicide attempt (you were the angel I couldn’t kill) while about to end her life (I’ll fake god today, hop on a cloud and watch the world decay).

My personal interpretation for this song is someone trying to get out of anorexia, which makes sense to me since it’s also called ana. “Ana baby, I’m not crazy” is the person trying to convince themselves their mental state is fine, while it’s not. The “I’ll play god” bit symbolizes finally getting a hold of it and managing to recover, and feeling godly in your own body.

For instance in Hayloft it's about someones dad having a gun then in arms tonight a person dies in their lovers arms after maybe getting shot. So possibly the dad shot his child's lover or something like that. To further support this, in Hayloft 2 it begins with the lyrics "Whatever happened to the young, young lovers? One got shot and the other got lost in Drugs and punks and blood on the street" like how one of the lovers died in arms tonight. It also states "An eye for an eye" "She had to kill Pop" as if she took revenge and killed her father.

Everyone talking about how hayloft and how this song plays into the whole murder thing, but one thing i haven't seen much (there are a few comments about this) is that they specifically used "Ana" and not the more common "Anna." Ana, from what i've seen is a common shortening for anorexia. "The angel I couldn't kill" is probably a metaphor for not being able to completely conquer their eating disorder.

i actually came up with a theory about what this song means. TW's coming!!! i think it's about a toxic & abusive relationship???? they are singing about both pov's. (ana and her partner) the "i'll fake god" part might be about them faking a happy and healthy relationship "you are the angel that u couldn't kill" must mean that ana's partner loves abusing her, that's why they can't kill her. (im using they since ion wanna assume genders but anyways) ana was depressed. so she self harmed. "playing this god can't be good for ana's safety" must be ana's pov... that faking a healthy relationship still won't be good enough to keep her safe. ana wanted to kill her partner, but ended up drowning in the bathtub instead. AND UH JUST SOMETHING I WANTED TO ADD "oh ana, i'll be with you still" might be ana's partner's pov. might mean they kept her body or something

This song to me obviously is about someone about to commit suicide, someone "playing God" and taking control to decide when their life ends instead of living until their "time" comes. The line "being this godly can't be good for Anna's safety" goes with this, as it's extremely dangerous if someone has convinced themselves that the decision and ability of ending their own lives, is the same as "being in control" of their own life.

(this may be a bit triggering for certain people) My theory: this song is about a woman who aborted her baby (the baby being Ana) and that’s why she’s saying “I’ll fake god”. She has the ability to take Ana away I don’t 100% believe this though, and I’m not insisting that this is what the song is about. It’s just something I thought of that made the song have a possible meaning Edit: for the idiots saying “it’s about anorexia”, I made this theory for ppl who are uncomfortable with that topic, like myself. The singer is trying to be rid of the disorder with the self-destructive activities mentioned earlier, but knows that they’ll never be able to 'kill Ana.'" basically, the singer is talking about how they can't get rid of 'ana' because it makes them feel in control of their life, hence the 'i'll play god,' 'i'll be god,' and 'i'll fake god' lines.

Ana being anorexia and the one thing this person can't stop or kill, and them playing god to alter their body, and the believe that even though they are hurting themselves but in reality it's doing nothing to them and isn't a bad thing (first verse) is why people interpret it as anorexia. But mother mother said there was no meaning to this song (from what I found) or they have never had a meaning for this song.
