I did once....in a small town where everyone knows everyone. It went well and not so well at the same time. The "it went well" part of it was that after i said it, she became even more fuming mad and asked for a manager. I explained my entire side of the story to my manager. She wanted me fired on the spot. My manager laughed and said no, told her to leave the store and follow through with never coming back. It was great. The "I didn't go well" part was that she started going around town making up BS stories about our store. Nothing really became of it because she had a reputation of being a cunt, but still, it came across that our store was full of delinquents. I worked my butt off. In reality, I am very nice and very passive, but if you catch me in just the wrong mood and I feel your behavior is not justified, I WILL call you out and I have no love for authority at that point.

If you want to come in, be respectful, and actually listen when I tell you something, then I'm more than happy to serve you. After all, it's my job. worked in foodservice as a demo sampler(the actual term was something like Demonstration performer, but lay man's terms I made the food that people could sample so they would buy the food product) One time I had a guy tell me that the food I was making smelled like literal shit, and he threatened to tell the club manager and get me fired. I told him that I was sorry the smell was offensive, but the manager didn't really have the authority to fire me since I worked for a third party, the club doesn't even know what demonstrations will be doing throughout the week. so he goes up to the front desk, asks for the manager, and tells them I'm burning food and heckling customers. The manager comes over and sees me, sees I'm making garlic haddock from scratch at a "raw bar" (A special demonstration where we have to processes raw meat with another station, which take up extra space in the store. ) I'm on my way to cook a new batch and all she smells is garlic, she loves garlic. so the first word from her mouth is "OMG, that smells wonderful!" with the irate customer right next to her. and he rants on about garlic and fish being one of the worst combinations of smells on the planet. I show the manager my station, show her my trash isn't full of burnt food, she knows that if I'm just making a batch of food I don't have any samples thus I cant "heckle" anyone, so she knows the customer is just trying to get my out of the store because the smell is bad, her alternative is telling him about the online app so he can order what he needs and get out of the store without having to smell food he doesn't like. He brings up he like the food demos it's one of the perks of being a club member, he just hates the smell of fish, the managers next response "Perhaps omit the demos on Friday during lent?" and he goes "What's lent?" I love people, this is why the world is so chaotic.

As someone who's worked in customer service in one way or another for their entire adult life, "the customer is always right" is the one attitude that needs to die as quickly as possible. I've been on both sides of the counter and I know when I'm being jerked around and the vast majority of the time I'm not. If I am being jerked around, it's usually the company's fault and not the person at the counter.
@cameronknowles62673 жыл бұрын
Very true there are legit complaints but if you ask for extra you should be charged because everything cost more money, I work in a restaurant and I’m fine with modifications but when someone asks for more they should always get charged especially if it’s something like extra meat because it cost the restaurant money

Yes! I agree. the employers are serving the customers, not slaving for them. It makes me happy when people are considerate to workers in retail 👍🏼 also the customer, especially this Karen, is not always right
@TheKiwiOfDoom3 жыл бұрын
@@robinlillian9471 This is not true. Speaking as a person who works exclusively in the CX (customer experience) area of a megacorp, there is a huge difference between being biased for the customer and adopting the "the customer is always right" approach. You should be biased for the customer, work from a point of view that strives to create the best consistent experience across your entire customer base and have firm, clear policies to guide that experience. Those policies need to be slightly flexible but not malleable. Having no backbone in your customer facing operations will lose you customer trust in the long run because expectations rise unrealistically with every concession that you make as a business to the point where you lose money on trying to meet them. So while exceptions pro customer need to be a thing, letting the customer dictating how you run your business will end your business. By far, most customers do not earn the companies they do business with enough to be profitable. If you buy a 5 dollar sub, the profit margin on that sub is relatively small and calculated based on a set amount of ingredients used per sandwich. If you add free extra everything, the profit margin dies very quickly and by the end, subway is essentially not just not making money off your purchase, they are losing money. And since customers that get away with this behavior not only keep doing it but also tell their friends to, you end up with an ever expanding group of customers who lose you money. The customer is most often not right. But they are entitled to you trying your hardest to meet their expectations without making poor business decisions to do so.

I worked at the 3rd Subway Store ever to open in 1975 on River Street in Downtown Milford CT. Most sandwiches were $1.29 except for Roast Beef and Pastrami which were $1.79. the upcharge for double meat on any regular (not heated) sub was 50 cents-$1.79. My point is there has ALWAYS been an upcharge for double meat. All inventory was so closely monitored that if you were putting extra anything on sandwiches, it showed at the inventory tally every month. I could load up vegetables usually without a problem but not meat or cheese. Every bread was accounted for. It was delivered fresh from a local bakery every morning and the leftovers were tallied and recorded at the end of the night.

@@Mt_Everest Subway franchisee suffered alot from this kind of behavior. People walk in, order a fuck tons of stuff then complain (sometime threatening the employees with "fIrEd tHis-FiREd tHaT") and then walk out without paying. Sometime this kind of people get arrested but the lawyer fees aren't worth it for the franchisee so they often just ignore those kind of "customer" and accept the wasted food/money.

"Safety squirt" makes me think of the precise distinction between a Fart, and a Shart. No one wants the ketchup bottle to "Shart" on their sandwich with that liquid nastiness that comes out at first sometimes...
