New Mother Jingga is up high on a ledge looking after baby Jarang.
The newborn baby is a critically endangered bornean orangutan born to first time Orangutan mother Jingga
this video was recorded September 2023
KZbin sensation Jingga has had social media fame before when a video featuring her went viral back in 2015 - viral video - monkey sees a magic trick
The video was filmed of her in her previous home Barcelona Zoo in Spain
Jingga move to her new home Blackpool Zoo in 2017 to join her new Blackpool Orangutan family as part of the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP)
14 year old Jingga was born in Barcelona in 2009 to mother Jawi and Father Karl
Now Jingga is settled at Blackpool zoo and has given birth for the first time to the tiny baby boy orangutan named Jarang
The father of the newborn baby orangutan is 13 year old Kawan who has recently moved to Blackpool Zoo in 2022 from Apenheul Zoo in the Netherlands and was an instant hit with the resident female orangutans Cherie Summer and Jingga
He came to the zoo as part of the European Endangered Species program after his much loved predecessor Ramon was moved to a new group in Germany where he has just become a new father himself
Kawan was specially selected by experts to join the female group at Blackpool Zoo and has settled into his new role as alpha male orangutan very well
We have recently added Blackpool Zoo to our list of zoos that we will be frequently visiting to film the apes, so watch out for more footage of this fantastic zoo. Blackpool has Gorillas and Bornean Orangutans and we were really impressed with both areas.
There are currently 5 Bornean Orangutans in one family group at Blackpool Zoo consisting of adult females Cherie Summer and Jingga
Alpha Male Kawan and the new male baby orangutan Jarang
Thanks for watching, please Like, Comment and Subscribe!
Blackpool Zoo is a 32-acre zoo and located in the sea-side resort of Blackpool, Lancashire, England. It provides a home to over 1,350 animals from all over the world.

Thank you Ape Tracker for these wonderful video's showing us updated of Mom and Lil one. I think she is just going to do it the way she is because shes never seen another mom with a baby to learn. I wonder how old she was when she came to zoo and whats the back story is on her Momma. I hope if the inside is open to the public or when it does become open that a Momma comes by with a baby and that she goes to the window and will see how she would be holding her baby. Maybe she would pick up a few things watching thru the glass. At Tama zoo when Kiki had Riki years and years ago. She also did a few things Jinga has been doing. She left Riki on the indide concrete a few times. But it took her awhile to figure out that he could hold on to her and she started relaxing little by little after that. He will be crawling before long. I hope she holds him up to the ropes so his instincts kicks in to climb. I guess when they start crawling its just part of who they are? Like when their born they know to hold on to Mom immediately. I think they will be okay. Just going to take time. Ape tracker Thank you also for all the videos you do. I would Love to live by some zoo's and be able to video the orangutans and chimps. Do you have long commutes to the various zoo's you go to? I Love the video's of Jazz & Joe & Jim and family. Do you think Sprout will try to take over as Mom when her boy gets older? Once all the hard work is out of the way that Jazz is doing? I wonder if he knows that Sprout is his Momma? When hes around her is there some sort of instinct that kicks in letting him know? Or if hes just going to always think Jazzie Momma is his Mom? Thank you again. I look forward to all the next video's.

Thanks for watching Nellie, We really appreciate you taking time to write such an informative post it was a very interesting read. I have pinned it so others can easily read it. We are lucky to be well positioned for Chester and Blackpool Zoo, the others are a longer drive. As for Sprout, I think she see's herself more as a big Sister to play with them both. I think she will help out but not take over. I do think however she will be well prepared for next time. 👍

This poor baby is NOT thriving❕ He's so weak, he's barely able to cling on to his mother. He never uses both hands & feet to hold on. NEVER seen him climb up to her back where I've seen all other orangutan babies ride/be carried in 100's of other videos. Never seen him suckle for any length of time either. She always pulls him off her chest and then sets him down and does her own thing. I'm not a vet, zoo keeper or animal specialist but it doesn't take "an expert" to CLEARLY SEE what's going on with this baby. He's NOT growing. He's NOT getting stronger. He's NOT active. He's NOT able to sit up on his own. He's NOT trying to sit, stand, climb, etc. He's NOT alert/curious about anything. He looks like he's BARELY clinging onto life. How long before someone steps in to HELP this little guy❔ This is heartbreaking to watch❕ I imagine just "good" video is being shown on this unfortunate situation. What are we NOT seeing? How many times is this little guy going to be dropped on his head (like I've seen in other videos)? And yah yah yah.... I don't need to hear long winded comments about the importance of keeping mother & baby together. These are CAPTIVE animals, not living naturally in the wild! They will ALWAYS be captive animals and never realeased into the wild so the "importance of mother & baby not being separated" theory can be thrown out the window. This mother OBVIOUSLY is NOT equipped with the knowledge or instinct to properly take care of a baby. These are CRITICALLY endangered beings❕ I would THINK the caretakers would do everything possible to make sure this baby THRIVES. Instead, before our very eyes, we're watching this poor baby struggle & getting weaker in every new video. Someone NEEDS to HELP THIS BABY❕

Jarang looks bad. What are you people seeing that makes you think he's getting adequate protein? I'm with everyone else here... if he lives through his infancy to toddler, he's going to be a beast! I hope he makes it. She's not showing any good traits of motherhood to me.

Any other zoo would have taken the baby from the mother a long time ago. It's cruel to see how she treats it. The baby never clings, never seen feeding, just leave it and goes off, never seen cleaning it.

Has Jinga been around other mother orangutans to see them caring for their babies? I think I've figured out why she holds the baby with her foot is because she doesnt trust he will cling to her hair as she moves. She is trying in her own awkward way, bless her heart. It is nice to the baby growing a bit. I understand that the keepers are letting nature take its course, it is just hard for us humans to watch. Thanks for filming these updstes!

I actually emailed them last week. I asked if he was OK and that although they know what they are doing I still feel a bit bad for him and asked them to just give him a hug. They replied and said as I have read many times as well, they know she isn't like other mums but she does respond when he cries, she is feeding him (he is looking a lot bigger now than from this video)and they do think he is safe. There is a reason she is still kept inside on her own. It is sad to watch them and then watch videos of older mums. It makes me heart sore for him but he is OK. I personally think she is very bored though but the other females havnt had babies so it's probably too risky to bring them in and there is no way they will let her outside with him, I don't think they will until he can crawl. It must be a very difficult ledge this zoo is on with these two.

Their enclosure is far from ideal. Concrete walls and what appears to be some kind of deep litter with a few beams thrown in is not what you would expect for these precious and endangered animals. I'm not blaming the zoo, I'm sure they are doing their best with limited resources, but some way should be found to provide a better environment, especially for a mother and baby.

@@chrisfreeman3950it's scary to watch but he's got a belly now. This zoo totally did this very young female wrong, they knew exactly what they were doing when they put her in with the male to get pregnant on purpose. New baby, more visits, more money and that's abuse. Yes they may feed her well and provide the essentials but she is too young to be a mother and now they have them separated from the rest in fear for the baby. When you see this it tells you a lot about the zoo and what means the most to them. She may not be beaten Abused and mistreated but this is still a form of abuse. I really hope this zoo has learned a lesson by not allowing this to happen with any other young Orangutans. Mom and baby didn't ask for this and maybe 6 more months might have made a difference. She's got a lot to learn and she will get there, it's going to take time. She has improved.

If the Keepers could sit Jinnga, and Jarang down and explain to Jarang that he shouldn't pull Mom's hair/fur, then I think we would all see that Jinnga would carry her son in a more traditional way. I also think we would see her feeding him more frequently❤!!
