I am Irish and I can remember my dad built a new bungalow and when we ran into see the new house and we all ran to the bathroom and stood looking at it for ages. The bath and toilet and sink was just something out of this world. We felt so RICH. That was 60 years ago!!!!!!

I really enjoyed your mom’s stories. I had exactly the same experience as a child. We came to Kerry and the house didn’t have running water or a toilet but we made super memories. Thanks for sharing IOW we used to go every year to Colwell Bay as kids . Rain or shine we were on the beach ! Happy times. Nice to see its not changed and still beautiful. I love that Mum was ‘hanging out with the kids’ 🤣 and a fantastic memory for her age. This is superb to capture these moments in person, if it was another person telling us this it wouldn’t have the passion and humour as Mum telling it, love it. As a family my parents twin sister and brother spent many years camping in Bembridge IOW one day my brother and I got stuck while walking along the cliffs and the tide came in, next thing we knew a helicopter was above he came to rescue us…never again. Oh and the wheel from the trailer carrying our tent etc flew off but did we laugh 🤣 Thank you both, appreciate your time. Hope Mother’s Day was a good one. Carol ❤

Your Mum is so lovely and cheerful😊. My childhood holiday memories in County Cork are very similar to yours. Imagine my horror when my parents decided to move permanently to three miles outside Bandon when I was twelve. From Islington. NO plumbing!, in 1967! Hells bells ! It was awful! Things turned out well in the end though. Living on the Coast in Cork is heavenly. The rocks you nearly ended up on near Glandore are called Adam and Eve. The sailing directions you get are avoid Adam and hug Eve…… so romantic.

My sister has an iron pot that my great-great grandmother used to cook in. So cool. We visited my dad's great-aunt in Texas when I was 6 or so (50 years ago) . She still had an outhouse! I think it's so good to have any experience on a farm. My grandparents were dairy farmers, my uncle is still a farmer, and my dad raises cattle and has a ranch. I have so many good memories of the times I've spent there. There's nothing like the country. Lovely hearing more about your mom's life! She's an expert at the "helloooo", hahaha.

Lovely chat with your mum again. I had my first ever trip to Ireland to visit relatives when I was in my early 20s who I didn't really know anything about and my experiences were very similar to what you were saying. Had to do the rounds of all the relatives and was cups of tea, cake, sandwiches etc and I picked up that they would get upset if one relative monopolised you etc. Also one of them was on a farm and also didn't have any toilet - luckily I didn't need to go! I also was from the city and was shocked. I visited again around 10 years ago and had changed a lot with lots of new houses on the farms and more modernised etc. Looking forward to next instalment with your Mum.

Fun visit with you and your Mum. I too remember seven of us in an Austin A70, me on my brothers lap, my twin sisters in the back, my young brother in the front with my Mum and Dad driving from the Midlands to Paris then on to the South of France. No motor ways, service stations and the like were non-existent so if you needed a wee you went in a grassy field! Heaven only knows how we did it. Thanks for the memories Helen. x

Hello Helen I am from Montreal Canada. I too am 65 years of age. When I was 12 years old my parents took me and my siblings to Greece (their birth place and mine) to visit our family. Just like you my brother, sister and myself were appalled that there weren't any indoor toilets. We finally visited one home that had indoor facilities which I must say where probably more modern than here in Canada. My first time seeing a bidet 😅. Anyway love listening to how it was in other places back in the day only to realize the experiences are quit similar regardless of where we live. You and your mom are great. Hellloo Helen n mum rrr loved see u wave to us all, great memories of your life iv family from Ireland grandad mum s dad Galway. Helen u so much like your mum love laughs together, miss my mums chats n laughter. My hubby family from Dublin we of there this year, rrr this mother's day vblog made my day after seeing my daughter s.
