Imam Ja‘far as-Sadiq (a.s.) said: “Fasting is not only about food and drink that a person refrains from eating or drinking. In reality, when you fast, then your ears, your eyes, your tongue, your stomach and your private parts must also fast. Restrain your hand and your private parts (from haram), and mostly maintain silence except for something good, and be lenient towards your servant.”

yep, that is correct. anyone can fast. In a religious point of view, christians also fast. This is called lent (lenten) A period of reflection, almsgiving, and fasting. However it is somewhat progressive because we can choose to fast from other things such as social media, junk food, etc.

One more thing to add, women who are in their period are prohibited to fast. Then like Ustazah said, they have to pay back in the other months. So there is no excuse for men to not fast, unless they are sick.

The fact is, when the Muslim community somewhere is still a MINORITY, they will not mind people who are not fasting eating in front of them. BUT, if they are already a MAJORITY, then they will start taking issue with people who are not fasting. They will demand to be respected just because they are fasting, and even make it a rule that non-Muslims do not eat in public, otherwise you will be considered disrespectful to them and could face the consequences. You can see in Indonesia, how food stalls have to put up curtains at the front of their stalls so that people who are eating are not visible from the outside.

@RanStuff It is totally different though. Indonesians also doesn't ban christmas decoration for example. Or any other religions stuff, we don't mind it too. I have a picture where there is a huge maybe 5 meters tall christmas tree, in front of a mosque. Like only couple meters in front of mosque where people praying. And nobody object. It is the beauty of Indonesia. If you go to indonesia in large city it is easier to find churches than mosques. Most mosques are small and inside small alleys. Most churches in large cities are huge and on the main roads. Now, when majority of the population are fasting, at least we expect those who don't fast show a bit of respect by not showing while you're eating is fair enough in my opinion. Nobody ban eating during ramadhan, but showing a bit of respect and have a bit of decency to hide while you were eating when your friends are in hunger won't kill you too. Because respect goes both ways. You can not expect someone to respect you if you don't respect them also. I myself doesnt mind people eat in front of me... and to tell you the truth, most of those that eat during ramadhan usually moslems as well, some are women who cannot fast some just doesnt want to fast. Also most of those sellers also moslems if you look carefully. Indonesians are majority moslems afterall. BUT i also not agree with some moslems who forced other people to close during ramadhan or something like that. And if you live here in Indonesia you must also notice that most of us also doesn't go around and forcing people to cover their food stalls or anything like that. It's just that when some do, it will be a huge news that every media will difinitely report it.

Do muslim knows that no verse in the Quran Allah teach to fasting.🤣 muhammad copy the fasting from the jews (surah al bukhari 1893) "muhammad asked the jews what are they doing during the month Ashura, the jews said they are fasting..." and do muslim know muhammad says NO COMPULSORY to fast .. (sahih al bukhari 1893) "who wishes to fasting during Ashura (jews fasting day) do so and who wishes not to fast don't need to fast"🤦 becoz Muhammad is copy paste the jews traditions 🤭🤭
