@@johnwig285 Yes it is considered striking a lottery. In my whole BMT platoon only one gets to go into dog handling. Don't really see what kind of ass he needs to work on to get into it. In fact a super low profile chap. No need to work his ass off in that vocation compared to those in combat vocation

@@SuccessforLifester First of all, SAF and SCDF have competed different operating styles. I’m not so sure about SAF, but for SCDF’s Search Platoon, those interested had to go for interviews where they were judged based on their fitness proficiency and confidence in handling dogs. After posting into the unit, they still have to work everyday (including weekend duty roster) to make sure the dogs are well fed and well maintained. If you think scooping up the poop of 20 dogs, washing their kennels day in day out, making sure the dogs are in the pink of health to the best of their abilities, and not to forget the training aspect of their job scope is menial work and can be done without jeopardising the welfare of the dogs, then yes for sure they do not need to work their ass off.
