I have utmost respect for them. When my wife broke her water bag and was in labour pain, i brought her to the car and sped to KKH. A TP tried to stop me, i opened my window and said i needed to go KKH. He nodded, turned on his siren and cleared the path for us! I never got to thank this officer personally.

He carries no gun but he's far better trained in policing than any US police officer. I bet the population have a fantastic relationship with their police compared to the acrimonious relationship between our population and militarized police forces.

To be fair, Singapore is one of the countries with the toughest firearm control, no one owns any gun (nobody is allowed to even keep a bullet in possession) . Crime rate, corruption (police, anyone is kept in check) are very low and country is small, its easier to control, enforce law and very hard for criminals to escape. That's why police in US are to be tougher?

Traffic police officers i salute all of you for your dedications to protect and safe guard all the roads in sg. Your dedications and hard work has paid off. But theres still plenty of irresponsible bloody bastards drivers and motorcyclists invading the roads, obstructing & causing dangers to other road users. Come rain or shine we can see the traffic police officers outriders out on full force on the roads heading towards heavy road flow zones. Kuddos to all of them for their selfless dedications in keeping all the roads safe from dangers.

To the TP, other than emergency can you ride on the road shoulder of a expressway. When conducting enforcement action on a motorist, are you allowed to flag him down and get the driver to stop at an operational bus stop. Are you also allowed to cross or ride in chevron markers as they are supposed to represent physical barriers. Ordinarily, a motorist would be committing an infringement if he drive or rides across or on the chevron marker. Can the TP conduct enforcement action like speed check or other infringements in a bus stop. While conducting speed check or speed trap in an overhead bridge, can the TP hide themselves or adopt a stooping posture or is he supposed to show a full body posture to advancing motorists. While conducting the same, can he clock or shoot a motorist from the rear?. While pursuing a motorist in a chase, can the TP OVER accelerate? Can a motorist refuse the order to stop in a bus stop or road shoulder when ordered by the TP by moving on to a safer location. Are TP , in an unmarked car or private car (police or otherwise) while conducting enforcement action be allowed to transport, carry or ferry a civilian. In issuing a traffic summon, is the TP supposed to provide truthful and accurate information with regard to place (eg. while on an overhead bridge, state it as lamppost, while on the main road, state it as a side or service road) in ,time and date of infringements. While a motorist was involved in a minor accident, can the TP stop the motorist from taking photos of the accident while not obstructing traffic and insist on the motorist drive off without the chance for photo proofs for insurance purposes (this case ended up with the driver being held liable without photo proofs. The other motorist while sustaining a minor finger injury, illegally moved his motorbike at the scene of the açcident). The TP was a Malaysian while the other accident party was also a Malaysian. Last but not least, can a TP do as he sees fit when conducting enforcement actions, are they required or supposed to maintain a certain level of courtesy when dealing with members of the public and Can they talk roughshod to the public?.

I think it's different beacuse we're english educated in singapore. Besides, the level of our intellect or our good or bad actions are not determined by the language we speak. Malaysia is a majority malay country and bahasa is the national and official language. Why do we associate being able to speak english(well) = success or high standard or being smart or whatever it is we associate it to be. China is one of the most powerful, rich, prosperous and innovative country. They have a lot of brilliant people, yet majority speaks Chinese. Why can't Malaysia be the same? Also imagine our parents, who we know are smart, long lived with many experience in life of work but cuz of the different times they live in, learning English wasn't a priorty. And when they are out trying to communicate with people but they can't and people preceive them as "stupid" or "low-class" or "useless" just cuz they can't speak English? How would that make you feel?

Yesterday morning dated 5 April 2018, I drove my family to Mandai Crematorium & Columbarium (MCC). On our way at Mandai Road, our vehicle was in the long queue awaiting and moving slowly at the 2nd lane and reaching the road junction, intending to turn right to the driveway leading to MCC. Unexpectedly, our vehicle was stopped by 2 Malay Traffic Police officers at the road junction who ordered us to turn away and not allow to turn right into the driveway leading to MCC. Our vehicle has been in the queue in the 2nd lane for about an hour and to turn us away when it was near to MCC was shocking, high-handed and insensitivity behaviors from the Malay officers. We were forced to return home as there was no way for us to find the starting point of the queues. The costs for my rented vehicle, the annual leaves we applied from our employers had all gone to waste. Although the 2nd lane was not allowed for vehicles to turn right according to traffic rules, there was no option for our vehicle to join the queue at the 1st lane which was stretched too long back. I remember few years ago during Ching Ming Festival, all vehicles were allowed to turn right from the 2nd lane. This incident prompted me to recall that vehicles driven by the Malays have been allowed to park illegally at the driveways nearby mosques on every Fridays. If the Malays have been given such privileges without being summoned while they attend to their religious activities, why were the authorities discriminate against the Chinese by not allowing their vehicles to turn right from a 2nd lane, to attend to their customary activities? Can we one day tell the Malays to park their vehicles at far away carparks while they attend mosques or risk getting a fine if they parked at the driveways next to the mosques illegally? I was also shocked and appalled and would like to know why the Traffic Police sent 2 Malay officers to turn away the long queue of vehicles in the 2nd lane driven by the Chinese. This was tantamount to sending Chinese officers to summon the vehicles parked illegally by the Malays who attend mosques nearby. Why is Traffic Police specifically targeting us Chinese turning us away to pray for our ancestors? I strongly believe many would be curious to know about the roles of Traffic Police officers. This is especially so for Malay officers who tend to perform their duties by the book and blindly enforcing traffic rules without other considerations by not using their brains. The general perception in Malay officers are that they tend to be good in riding skill but lacking the intelligence to deal with public on traffic violations and tend to provoke potential offenders rather than pacifying them. I seriously urge Traffic Police to look into the behaviors of its Malay officers who are more likely to seek easy way out in resolving issues at the expenses of motorists and this is particularly worrying. It is absolutely irresponsible of the Traffic Police to simply forcing motorists to drive away from their intended destinations which this incident has cast serious doubts on the capability of the Traffic Police, from low to high ranking officers. Ultimately, many including me are disappointed and have lost confidence in the way the Traffic Police mishandle the situation. Is it now that our current President is a Malay that the Malays now can show disrespect to the thousands of dead at the MCC belong to the Chinese? Is Malays’ religion or customs more superior than that of the Chinese, especially more now that we are having a Malay President? I also recall the authorities plan for several roads to close annually for the Indians or Hindu to celebrate their religious activities, Thaipusam, with street processions. So why the authorities discriminate against the Chinese by not having any plan to close roads leading to MCC to facilitate the ease of accessibility for the Chinese?
