Every other version makes the song sound a lot more heartwarming and pretty to ease the listener and remind them of Mothra’s gentle and caring nature. But this original version had a different idea. Human nuclear tests destroyed Infant Island. Those Sacred Springs were the only part of the island left untouched after the nuclear tests. Thus, this original song takes on a much more tragic and solemn atmosphere and tone.
@mibukdesjarlais5342 жыл бұрын
And not to mention that the nuclear testings of the Infant Islands reminds me so much of the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima back in 1945. The radiation and effects that it caused towards the people of Japan during the aftermath of that tragedy was indescribable and very terrifying. Since this movie was made in the 60s and dealt with similar themes as far as death and destruction goes the haunting atmosphere of this lullaby hits even harder. So not only is this beautiful song about the Goddess of monsters and all things mortal but it could also possibly commemorate all the innocent souls that were lost during that horrible tragedy in Hiroshima back in 1945. 🦋

I just saw the Classic Media DVD release of this film with an audio commentary from Godzilla film historians. They said that composer Akira Ifukube turned down composing the original Mothra film because he didn't feel comfortable writing songs for the twin fairies. And yet he wrote this for Mothra Vs. Godzilla. I think his fears were completely unfounded. This is beautiful.

@@Albert_Lecter03 I had a feeling the indigenous natives of Infant Island has Filipino roots. According to the Godzilla fan map, the island Mothra is from is within proximity of the shores of the Pacific Islands of Malaysia and Philippines. This explains the natives attire is similar to the Philippines when they were indigenous.

I had the opportunity to visit Toho Studios two years ago...we were able to go into the music studio where he recorded this...someone asked "Where did he stand when he conducted the orchestra?".....every one of us found our way to that spot at least once. thank goodness for early cable, creature double feature, Tojo & Hammer... The Mothra Twins enchanted my youth with their haunting song & their mini-size representation on screen. To my child-mind, it made perfect sense that two, tiny princesses would live in a fancy box somewhere in the mysterious Pacific and sing songs in harmony to giant monsters to pass the time. Akira Ifukube deserved Academy mention for some of his compositions. And the Peanut Twins singing is beautiful.

This piece is even more haunting the more you put in your head that Godzilla is an actual threat to the people of Japan and possibly the entirety of the world. All of Japan's most powerful weapons (sans an atomic bomb) are nothing but irritants to Godzilla and it seems they have run out of any means of stopping his country-wide rampage. So their only option left is to call upon Mothra to oppose him and put all their hopes that she can stop him.

Well the Legendary Monsterverse is trying to go for a more realistic approach. I know that’s a weird thing to say given how it’s about giant monsters breathing fire at each other, but what I mean is they’re leaning more towards giving Kaiju ancient origins and not being mystical or from another planet (it hasn’t been revealed yet if Legendary’s Ghidorah will be an alien, but we’ll just have to wait and see). While of course those origins were more then appropriate in previous Godzilla movies, that’s just not the angle they’re going with for the Legendary movies. So while Mothra will likely be some giant ancient species of moth, who was probably worshipped by natives as a Goddess, I don’t think they’ll add the twin fairies sadly. Believe me, I’m bummed out too. But given how Legendary is trying to keep things realistic (which again, by making Kaiju ancient species) and keep things from getting out of hand, you can’t blame them for not doing this since that would conflict with what they’re trying to do.
@snaake93896 жыл бұрын
Laserbeak316 I feel like it can still be realistic if the priestesses of the tribe that worships Mothra are at least normal sized twins. Also that the radioactivity of the island doesn’t harm its natives, similar to that aspect of the 1960s film, and that it may affect some lineage of family who have some sort of telepathy. Or to make it even more digestible, maybe just have some sort of explanation that involves Mothra being attracted to or obedient to a specific arrangement of frequencies that just so happens to be the Mothra songs that are scattered throughout her mythos, and that the twin priestesses are the ones who’ve studied and memorized them all their life. I feel like they could head in those directions without it being completely absurd to the average moviegoer while having it be close to the source material.

This song gives this haunting vibe, as if they're mourning a once beautiful island turned into a desolate wasteland by atomic testing. The little sacred springs, it reminds them of the entire island in its former glory. Every time I hear it, I imagine how much of a paradise Infant Island once was. This is why Mothra is my favorite kaiju (Godzilla's my second). She is one of the first kaiju to have such a close connection to humanity, the first kaiju to be a protector, the first kaiju to carry such emotional moments with her, whether that be through her deaths or through the fairy twins. The fairy twins and Mothra will always be some of my favorite characters in kaiju fiction. And Godzilla is a great character too, who also has plenty of emotional moments, but Mothra will always be my favorite kaiju.
