Moti Mahal is a restaurant. After the partition of India in 1947, The Moti Mahal in Delhi was founded by Kundan Lal Gujral, Kundan Lal Jaggi and Thakur Dass as one of the first restaurants to introduce the Punjabi cuisine to the rest of the world.

Moti Mahal was founded by Kundan Lal Gujral, Thakur Dass and Kundan Lal Jaggi, in Delhi in 1947. They worked at a small eatery called Moti Mahal, owned by a man named Mokha Singh in Peshawar, British India, from the 1920s to 1947.
A portion of Tandoori chicken. Kundan Lal Jaggi, Kundan Lal Gujral and Thakur Dass, the founders of the restaurant, are credited with the invention of the dish.
After the partition of India in 1947, they fled to Delhi with their families. In Delhi, the three partners bought a thara (booth) in the Darya ganj area, then considered a newer part of Old Delhi and then they started Moti Mahal, Daryaganj. Moti Mahal further went on to invent butter chicken and dal makhani.

Moti Mahal Restaurant Darya Ganj New Dehli owner Lala Kundan Lal was originally from Peshawar in Pakistan. I have been there in 1982. Lala jee was a big hearted person v cool humble down to earth person, he was v fluent in Pashto local language of Peshawar. Lala Jee was overwhelmed to have guests from Peshawar.

I went last night & the food was so lousy that I can’t say & we have got food poisoning with a stomach upset. The butter chicken, chicken burra kabab, shahi paneer & nan were so pathetic that we ate very little. Pls don’t waste your money by going there. I had been going there since 1970 and though the taste has been inconsistent in the last few years, never had I imagined that it will be so pathetic. The best part is that the waiter wasn’t even willing to listen when we complained of the food. I will never go there again.

Overly hyped joint. Time has rotten their glory, you will always 1 or 2 guests sitting munching on highly overpriced meal. They couldn't grow with time hence it's a failure joint now.
