this is one way to way to do it but this complicated. but you don't you to have memory card to have this you only need the memory card if you're saving a seq. To setup a performance just hit Perform>Job>Enter>Yes>Perform Now you should see "Init Perf" on the screen. then hit F2 now you should see piano on the first slot. now hit down then press SF1 to add another sound and do the same for slots 3 and 4.

You're missing the point. Performance mode only allows you to use up to 4 sounds. Song/Pattern mode will give you access to 16 sounds at once.

Having "access to" doesn't necessarily mean you're layering and playing them all at once, just means there's no switching to different patches. This would especially be important on these older boards that didn't switch patches while also sustaining the previous one.

You can save to a SCSI drive too, but may be easier to find a Smartmedia Card.

Hey, thanks for this tutorial! We have a Motif 8 at our church that I am helpless in knowing how to use! I play the organ but on occasions I do play the keyboard but someone has to set it up for me. Are they similar? In watching this it looks very much like the 8. I did learn from this too:)) Thanks!!

The best way to do this is build a master. You don't need a card just save it in one of the 64 master slots.

Read the manual on the master section. The master section let’s you layer or split programs or performances. Control other instruments through midi. Set up the sliders and knobs to control whatever you want. And they are stored in 64 slots in the board. No loading just press the button.

Great video! My question is can the sounds you layered on the keyboard also be sent out as layered sounds through the MIDI output? Will it still come through as layered channel in a digital workstation such as Cubase or Protools?

When you layer the sounds this way, they all end up on one channel, so it'll be that way in any midi program

Have you tried formatting the card? If so then either the card is no good or your board has a problem

Problem with this keyboard is that you only get the effects/elements / or whatever on one channel, at a time. It makes it useless for live performance.

My cousin tweak my motif 6 where the key is off 3 semitones how do I switch it back I was playing at a lounge and I think he was just hating cause I’m a tad bit better lol

Press the 'Utility' button. Tune and Note shift should both be '0'

msmallsman do you know how to assign pitch bend so it modulates my strings instead of the keys and also I assign cutoff to pitch bend for synths as well

I respect your effort here but this is not the correct method for layering sounds. This method is more suitable for the recording/ studio aspect. You are attempting to use the sounds layered in live situations in most instances so you will want to use "Performance" mode for layering and splitting with use of the sliders.

If you only need 4 sounds yes. But This way will give you the ability to use 16 sounds at once.

The 6 and the 8 are exactly the same in their controls. Only difference is the number of keys.
