Great again. I learned so much(everything?) From you over the last 10yrs. One thing I can probably add: when soloing you're telling a story. So when soloing I'm singing some text while playing notes from the corresponding scale. E.g. I'm singing the Austrian anthem but play the pentatonic. This helps me with phrasing. Song one line twice and I have a repetitive element.
@justinguitar3 жыл бұрын
Great advice - a solo tells a story. To complement that, think about how you would tell a story - short sentences, long sentences, pausing for breath and dramatic tension. | close 2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide [ www.justinguitar.com/ ] & Moderator on JustinGuitar Forum [ justinguitarcommunity.com/index.php ]

The lead guitar solo to whiskey in the Jar came to my mind after watching this lesson. I guess knowing scales would help to learn to play that

You can also use Motifs for rhythm techniques in your lead playing. Play the same rhythm with different tones. Example, play a lick; play the lick with the same rhythm but different tones like you're transposing

I like the new posh format. As for the melody, I'm no good at creating an original melody on the spot, so I just pilfer the first melody line of some song I already know, then maybe modify it a bit. Then I can use the tricks Justin described, like repetition, scales in 3rds, etc to build the improv thread.

Thanks Justin! Some very good pointers, information, and reminders. Slow down just a bit though. I noticed the broken arrow on your arm. Is that symbolic of something? I like your 12th Fret reference too. Time now to practice a few of your teachings. Later, buddy!

Great lesson. Quick question about harmonic development over a chord progression, eg, blues, 251, etc. Are you thinking of a certain chord tone to start on, or finish on? Eg for autumn leaves, start motif on the 3rd of that chord.?

Hi Justin, great fan of yours.... I have some how managed to master the blues licks on pentatonic in 5 positions. Your videos are of great help , now l can play 25 licks(almost 20 properly ☺️) individually but not able to marry them to build a decent solo...can you pls help me here. I am sure there will be many like me....hence if you pls create a video where you show how to build a solo using those licks. We will understand proper usage of them....kind of spoon feed , l agree ☺️ but it is required in the beginning. Hope you help me here

I assume you can do this over any scale, I’m currently working on C major scale in the open position.
