this is pretty cool I have gotten to the point of rigging and weight painting my own character and retargeting motion capture onto my rig I just didnt know what the next step is to make a scene gonna have to watch this a few times to get it. I do have one question I have a character mixamo animation running in place , after I make the action can I animate the character moving across the scene without messing up the NLA action? If I were to keyframe I think its the y axis and x axis to mimic the character moving will that work?

I've played with this recently, I found you'd need to edit and keyframe the bones separately.

Did you find out by now how to merge takes with different translations? I am coming to Blender from C4D where this was possible with NLA pivots, so far I haven't found a tutorial how to do it in Blender
