what about the center of mass of a ring? I though center of mass and center of gravity were not the same thing, by your explanation they seem to me to be the same

objects rotate around their center of masses. like the hammer example, and they follow a linear path (the center of mass point)

in a ring, it is not a solid object like a solid ball. but it still will have a center of mass but you need to calculate it because all of its mass is on the "outside" aka its mass is not equally distributed like the hammer
