Ok, I have seen just a handful of your videos and they seem in my opinion the bests ones to date. Concise, to the point and fully embraces both FCP and Motion content. This is coming from an After Effects background but decided to embrace FCP and Motion whenever I get a chance until I get proficient enough (editing is now a no-brained, FCP is hands down the fastest and joyful way to me to lay down shots, clips and content in general).

Seriously! I feel like if apple figured it out, it would be absolute top-tier. Unfortunately, I don't think it's gonna happen anytime soon. It only took them 11 years to add object tracking 😂

AE rotobrush sure puts this method to shame. It boggles the mind that Apple would be so far behind with this. While AE has refined edge settings and improved its edge identification ability over the years, Apple still hasn’t even entered the rotobrush arena… 🤷‍♂️

Hey David! So if you go into the tracker settings, you can change the "mode" from "Object" over to "Point" and that should do the trick!

Hey, Dylan. Would you have any tips for retiming the rotoscoped layer? For example, I'm adding an additional Clone layer to the rotoscoped Clone layer. However, there is no Optical Flow option for slow motion.

The only thing I disagree with is that when you composite the surfer onto the beach is that you applied the tracker to his head area. You should attach the tracker where the two components touch theoretically. In this case the feet are touching the beach. Adding the tracker closer to the feet would ensure that the surfer moves in relation to the area in which he's standing instead of the sky that is miles away. Hopefully that makes sense. Thanks for the video.

whenever I use the bezier tool, it cuts out whatever I outline completely leaving it white and idk what to do :(

Have you ever had any success using the Track Points behavior on a shape mask? Tried it for the first time last night and as far as I can tell it's completely broken, which is sad.

These Motion tutorials are very helpful. My son makes MAD (music videos synced to anime) on youtube. I started him on Final Cut but after awhile he'd just edit the entire video in Motion and not use Final Cut Pro at all. Now he's moved on to After Affects. Anyway, why not just use one mask for the whole surfer and board together?

That’s awesome! The point of multiple masks is because of how hard it is to anticipate how complicated the mask shape will need to be. If you add too few points, you’ll be in trouble and have to start all over. If you add too many, you’ll be doing a ton of extra work for no reason at all. So by doing small individual parts, it’s much easier to calculate how many points will be needed, without losing too much progress if you happen to mess up.
