This is great! As a motion designer that’s currently employed full time and doing no freelance at the moment, this all sounds fascinating. Masterfully laid out, thanks for the info. My paranoia makes me wonder if me starting to engage on LinkedIn a bunch would make my employer nervous that I was trying to leave, ha. However it would be cool to get odd little freelance gigs every now and then.

Thanks so much for this comment! Ahaha well that wouldn't be great for them to clock on 😉 There's a risk of that but also hopefully your employer would see you engaging in the motion design community and that also benefits them. So focus on peer connections first! :)

Following up the chat conversation, how relevant are hashtags on Linkedin in your opinion ? I've got into the habit of putting some because of how often I post on Instagram but wondering if Linkedin has different rules regarding hashtags :)

Hey! So, I think they're good for categorising but not as much for search anymore.. The algorithm changes so frequently, but follow Richard van der Blom on LinkedIn as he shares the studies and changes in the algorithm! Hope this helps!
