Tank vent,, use a brake booster one way valve. Plenty large and do not spill either. I have used them for 40 years on road race cars as well as speedway with no issue. IF you want to be doubly sure use some 3/8 hose in a spiral. Bulletproof

Just curious. I was always told to install 2 vent lines the same size as your feed line, with appropriate size check valves, one of the front and one on the rear, stagger their sides too. That way if drag racing, the rear vent closes off, but the front is open. Same for the side to side which does the same with a full tank and street driving.

In a drag racing application Where in the tank should the vent be located?
@marc3311
@marc3311 3 жыл бұрын
You said that a "check valve" was not mandatory. Pretty sure NHRA requires a rollover valve on all fuel cell to prevent fuel from coming out if vehicle is upside down. Having a catch can will not prevent the fuel from coming out of the cell. A protect check/rollover is required and should be used for safety. Also, a very good idea to have a filter on the vent or it will suck a LOT of dirt in the fuel cell and fuel system.

Anyone got some input on my idea? I can't find anything when searching for it. I'm thinking about running dual vents one on each side of the tank, Would it be a good idea a bad idea or just overkill? My thinking is if fuel splashes up in the vent line and up on the check valve closing it on one side of the tank in a hard turn for example then the other side would vent just fine and vice versa, The more ventilation the better? Second question not as important right now: Is there a good type of pressure clock that you can install in the gas tank to keep an eye on how much pressure is in the tank just an extra safety feature that I'm thinking on. cant be too safe when dealing with custom built tanks for flammable liquids right? And what should the pressure be inside of a gas tank? As close to atmosphere as possible or is there some sciensy thing I don't know to having the right amount of pressure in a tank?

I put a Summit Racing plastic cell in the back of an old C10 I built years back. Came out one HOT summer Texas afternoon and the vent had failed. @@MotionRaceworksOfficial something I've heard of to keep the temp down is on a few raceweek cars is a "small" drop in pump to do normal driving/crusing like a 450, as well as a larger external pump that kicks on when needed. you have to also think about fuel heating. fuel is going to the hot engine bay, through fuel rails bolted to a hot engine, and then returned to the tank. also consider on a race week car the air temps increasing throughout the day. this alone will cause a lot of pressure build up in the tank.

By looping the vent line, you could get fuel trapped in the bottom of the loop, thus it will act like the trap on your sink... not allowing it to vent. Do not loop...

I think you gave some incorrect information when you tried to relate fuel flow from the tank to high and low pressure pumps. The higher pressure for EFI is needed for the injectors to atomize the fuel whereas the low pressure pump for a carburator only has to keep the carb fuel bowl full but if the engines are making the same HP they will use the same amount of fuel. It is still science and not magic. You can pull a gallon/hour of fuel from the tank at 10psi or at 60psi and the fuel flow rate is still the same (1 gallon/hour).

Spiral up your vent line… No clue who started that, but it’s not a 💯 thought through idea… Ever heard of a sink trap? If fuel gets up in the spirals and sits, you now have a blocked vent line. One that now pushes that “fuel pill” back and forth through the vent line… It’s now effectively an expansion chamber not a vent line. Is it a total fail? No, but it’s not 💯… A proper vent fitting with a check ball and a hose attached, if someone properly engineered one, is the ultimate solution. No clue why in 2024 the aftermarket is so slow…
