When my dad was ill in the end stages of cancer he told me that our prayers were keeping him from doing what the Lord needed him to do and they were needed to change what we were praying for. When we started praying that the Lords will would be done quickly, if it be healing or moving on, he passed within a few days. I am grateful for the opportunity we had to exercise faith in prayer until we could be in a place to let him go. It wasn't the Lord will that he be healed, but through prayer, we were granted the time necessary, to learn a valuable lesson about the power of prayer.

A couple of years ago after having some amazing experiences a few years in a row while praying on Thanksgiving Day for everything that I was grateful for, I started to recognize and realize how abundantly the Lord had blessed me! It was amazing! I then wanted to try to pray with gratitude more regularly and as I did this I started to realize how I didn’t need to ask the Lord for help, but instead like the brother of Jared was instructed to do, to instead tell the Lord what I needed Him to do, but not in a demanding way, but in a confident way. Because after recognizing how much the Lord had blessed me over the past 45-50 years, I knew now that He would continue to keep blessing me. So I have been trying to pray daily with that confidence and gratitude. For example instead of just thanking the Lord for my food that I eat, and then asking Him to bless it, I instead express how grateful I am for it and how grateful I am for the nourishment that I KNOW it WILL give to me. Or instead of asking for protection, expressing gratitude for the protection that I KNOW He WILL be giving to me and my children each day and for the angels who WILL BE watching over us. It has changed my relationship with Him in a very deep and trusting and loving way!

I looked up President Hollands talk he refers to from October 2022 and this is the heading underneath the title: To be a follower of Jesus Christ, one must sometimes carry a burden and go where sacrifice is required and suffering is inevitable. Wow!!

We need to believe that with prayer and pleading and personal righteousness, we really can ascend to “Mount Zion," and we need to prepare for that and believe in it. Pretty cool
