2:30 So apparently one guy in charge of our school is a fan of Nintendo games, so when we're dismissed, this song plays. Every time this song plays, everyone at school stupidly hums to it, and it's amazing. When this song played on your channel, I immediately paused the video and had my mind absolutely blown that the song everyone sings along to was from Zelda. As a fan of video games and their music, this was the most awesome thing that could ever happen. So thanks, 8-bit music theory.

I'd love to hear you do more dissections of Link's Awakening music. It's got a special place in my life as the first video game I ever played and I think a deeper understanding of just how different the music in the game was would be fascinating.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY 8-BIT!!! Can't believe the amount of success you've found in just a single year, it's pretty much unheard of. No wait I definitely can believe it, your videos are fantastic and are only getting better. Can't wait to see what the next year brings. This is honestly one of my favourite videos you've done. I loved seeing the main theme evolve step by step into something that I barely would've even recognised in Sword Search as coming from the same piece. Really great work dude.

I remember around one year ago when I got this sudden urge to learn all about music theory. Decided to search youtube for videos on the subject, and you had just uploaded your first video with perfect timing. I feel like I've learned so much during this year and a lot of that is due to your videos. Really appreciate what you do, and I think this is a good time to give you a huge "thanks". Thank you for making the process of learning music theory such a great experience for me!

Totally thought this was going to be about the shrines, but this makes just as much sense! Hip video, man. I really like how you mentioned the balancing of Rhythmic and Intervallic variations. That's such a crucial element that can be so easily looked over! Anyways, Link's Awakening is so sick. I'm working on an analysis of Face Shrine and Sword Search at the moment!
@GUIM17977 жыл бұрын
Oh, and your video transition and interactions with the sheet music is definitely improving (smooth, man). Personally I would much rather see sheet music or terminology the entire time versus the amount of gameplay shown (although I do dig when you use gameplay to demonstrate an idea, such as the NES Zelda side-by-side with Wind Waker), but I know there are so many viewers out there that would definitely not concur.
@8bitMusicTheory7 жыл бұрын
There's soooo many examples of this in this soundtrack that I ended up cutting down like 2/3rds of the original script just to get it to a reasonable length. But thanks! I've been trying to step up my editing game, good to hear that it's getting better!
@GUIM17977 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, I know how that goes! Sometimes I feel like I spend more time cutting down content than I do writing it, haha! It's so easy to talk about these killer tunes for hours. 5 - 10 minutes though? Oh god...

I noticed the same thing - the production has become mega slick!! I enjoyed the rough 'DIY' style of your first few videos but you've really kicked it up a notch. Also, if you ever feel like making a 'deleted scenes' where you add in all that extra content I'm sure you'll have an audience for it!!

Congratulations on your first year of the channel! Really love how the intro sounded, and the video was extremely good as well (as always)! As others have said I never actually knew that the Sword Search music was directly using the main Zelda theme that way, and the overall presentation was really interesting. If I were to make a Patreon request, which admittedly I don't have as much money as I'd like, but I'd love to support your channel when I can afford to... I still don't know exactly how to formally make the request, since I lack the proper music theory understanding to really know what I'm talking about I guess, and I don't have a specific game soundtrack in mind to base it off of. But I kind of would be interested in seeing a video on how unusual time signatures can be used to influence the rhythmic structure of a song to create different moods, but I don't know how to phrase that premise in a way that wouldn't be either too elementary or too self-defeating (in that, since you can create various different moods with the same unusual time signature, it comes down more to other factors, thus weakening the premise to just analyzing songs that use odd time signatures). I'd also want a game to work from that includes a variety of uncommon times to work with in its soundtrack, or at minimum two that use the same non-standard meter in contrasting ways. ...I mainly ask this because in my experiences learning to play music (as a brass player in high school marching, concert, and jazz ensembles) and in just listening to it on my own I've come to really appreciate unusual time signatures to an admittedly nerdy degree, to the point that I personally prefer 5/4 and especially 7/4 over standard 4/4 or 3/4. Sorry if this is all very awkward. If I can get the money together, come up with a strong game to suggest for the topic, and if nobody else has suggested this before, I'll be sure to drop a more formalized suggestion to you in the proper way. Until then, keep making great videos as you have been!
