I've had this phone for a week. I got it because I needed a phone and I'm poor. OMG. $10 per month thru Consumer Cellular (my carrier). This phone is awesome. I'm a casual user, so I tested the battery for me, and 4 days, and I still had 31% left. Really. The camera quality is very good compared to my old Samsung. Foliage pics in NH are true to color and beautiful. If you are on a tight budget like me, this phone is a really really good option. I highly recommend it.

Bought the Moto G Power and got it yesterday. Charged it to 100% and with hotspot on and while setting up my phone (installed apps, restore backup from Google account, tested phone's functionality & settings, etc...) it drained battery down to 20% in 8-9 hrs. Also phone quality was OK for short calls but in a 20 min call, it went to sleep, dropped call volume, friend said my voice dropped to a whisper, etc... Have some remote 1 hr calls in next couple of days, will see if call issues persist. For now, giving the phone a 7 out of 10. UPDATE:. My rating for Moto G Power is 10 out of 10 and it works perfectly now. What happened? During my initial setup, I backed up my old Samsung to my Google Drive and let the START menu on my new Moto restore automatically. Two issues:. Device setting from my old Samsung messed up the CALL capability on my new Moto and I had bloatware on my old Samsung that Play Store automatically installed. LESSON LEARNED:. After factory resetting multiple times, I chose not to install Device Setting from my old Samsung and I manually picked which additional APPs I wanted to install on my new phone. I cut out 20 apps out of 50 that was on my old Samsung that I never really used or were incompatible with my new Moto. It's been two weeks now and everything is working fine and running pretty fast. Not planning to buy another phone until my carrier (Visible) offers 5G and then I'll need a 5G compatible phone. Hopefully it's another Motorola because I love the Moto Gestures.

Hey Jean, the battery drain is somewhat common with Android - it takes a few days to learn your habits from new, then when things calm down, you'll likely see better SOTs.

Since you're busy installing updates on your first day, of course the battery will seem to drain quicker on the first day, silly! Since we usually are on our new phone more than usual on the first day.

@@gearupaaron So I'm just over 24 hours in with the new phone. I've got to admit that yesterday I felt like giving it up and going back to iPhone, but now I'm starting to get things figured out and appreciate what Android has to offer that iPhone doesn't. In the two days between ordering the phone and it arriving I made sure to back up everything I could to google. This made for a very quick transition of my contacts, photos, calendars, notes, safari favorites and some passwords. The struggle was the learning curve of just using the phone and the overwhelming settings and options. Also, downloading all of my apps was a pain as most of my passwords weren't remembered and then each app ask for some kind of verification that it's actually you logging into the new device. But before I went to bed last night most of that was sorted out. So far the biggest pain has been has been other people's iPhones taking a while to realize I'm not longer using an iPhone and sending SMS messages instead of iMessage. Today has been exploring the phone a bit more and adjusting notification settings for different apps as they pop up throughout the day. It's exciting to learn a new way of doing things after a decade and I've got to say I'm having fun. My last Android was the original Samsung Galaxy S. I'm glad to see Android has come a LONG way since those days. There's still a few things on this phone that just isn't as sleek as my iPhone was (like the different swiping gestures) but I'm learning and not as intimated. So overall not a bad transition! As friends complain that they have to look at a green bubble while texting me, I'm telling them how much better Android is.

@@mattheweveretts7648 get last pass to manage all your passwords, you can thank me later. Android has wonderful options, you can change any aspect of the phone you like. Smart Launcher is a nice tool that puts your icons in an easy to use circle configuration. Lastpass is truly the first thing you should download, it is free but the premium version allows 2FA. Welcome to android where you won't feel like a prisoner.

I bought one last June and I've been very happy with it. The main camera is excellent, especially for landscape/outdoor shots I've gotten some fantastic shots this Fall. It's not bad in low light/indoor pics either to be honest. The LCD screen is clear, sharp and bright. But it's the overall package that really impressed me. If you don't have the money to shell out for a BMW then this is your Toyota. Thanks for the review! You actually tipped the scales in my decision to go with this phone! There have been some big price drops recently for anyone else considering the Moto G8 Power.

This thing's battery is pretty incredible, I will say not as good as the G7 Power sadly. However, it does improve a lot of things the G7 Power didn't do as well, we get a better camera setup, Bluetooth 5.0, dual speakers, and now more storage and ram. I'm very impressed with this phone as it now has a lot more going for it than just having a big battery like last year's G7P.

camera's are in the corner because they can't make them as slim as the phones are. If they put the camera in the center of the phone, it will rock if laying on its back when you press on the screen. Some phones get around this by making a huge phone section to help stop this rocking. They learned to place the array in the upper corner to stop the rocking, Some people believe the camera array sticks out to keep the flash from reflecting off the shiny back of the phone. This is not true. The cameras are difficult to build slim. The better the camera, the thicker.

Great review thanks (subscribed)... Already own the Moto G7 (and Pixel 2XL) being very impressed with what Motorola is able to achieve at their price points. Like the near stock Android experience, overall performance, Moto Actions, their physical rear mounted fingerprint sensor is one of my favs/preferred, cameras for this price range are impressive, and so on. Anyway, the G Power's 5000 mAh battery enticed me enough to purchase, yet to receive but on its way. So done spending the BIG bucks for today's flagships as finding devices such as these easily suffice for 98-99% of my needs, and I save a bundle in doing so. P.S. Actually finding update support on the Moto G7 rivals my more expensive LG/Huawei phone's which cost 3-4 times the price, that's crazy.

For videoing, don't let it hunt. By tapping an area, you decide the point of focus. Autofocus isn't intelligent, it needs assistance. For the night pictures, did you try using the manual mode? It has manual focus and shutter control. It's not clear at first that it has this feature. A camera without manual focus is not a real camera. It does have video stabilisation, though not having had the phone for long I don't know if it's up to scratch. Yes, the camera has manual focus and shutter control. I can verify that I don't work for Motorola - and certainly have had issues with this phone - though when it comes to the camera, the only issue is the interface which is both fiddly and ingenious at the same time. It fulfills my needs for shooting a documentary film. I am not saying it's perfection. Pro photographers more often than not use cameras that are 10 or more years old. Please buy a 'rugged' case for it. Though the clear plastic one is okay, it won't protect it if it falls screen side down.

Good review of the G power. I really enjoy using mine, even though it's quite large with a good impact case on it. I agree the main camera is very good in good light. I find the ultra wide is quite terrible, with way too much noise reduction that smudges details even in half decent lighting. I tried installing a port of Gcam called "Urnyx's 7.3 v2.5" which allows the use of the wide lens. This port is not specifically for the G power so there are some glitches with using the wide lens: you need to use the options menu to enable the telephoto lens (since gcam appears to think the wide is actually a tele), and video doesn't work with the wide lens.However, HDR+ works and night sight works. Noise is still there but there is much less noise reduction resulting in a lot more detail. HRD photos are sharper and look better. Another downside is the barrel distortion correction in camera isn't done right. Still, for general purpose it gives way better pictures on the wide lens and better pictures with the main shooter.

I'm hoping that Motorola/Lenovo will get it together with their cameras and actually focus on them more. I want to see budget phones actually prove me wrong as to why sometimes; spending more is just an overall better investment. I think it's sad to even consider a 2MP lens because it wouldn't even work for a flip phone let alone in 2020 on a smartphone. I think for the macro lens, if they were going to go lower quality, they could of at least put in an 8MP or even a 5MP macro lens to make things a little more justifiable. Really wish they would provide a night mode as well. I just don't see the excuse anymore to exclude that because a $199 Galaxy A20 even has night mode and it's not the greatest camera either but at least it has it to help improve it a bit. I'll always love Pixel phones so eventually; I'll probably upgrade and get a Pixel 4a 5G or if things are going really really well; a Pixel 5 but I'm sick of seeing Google is the only company (aside from Samsung) that is actually doing more than just slapping cameras on the phone and saying "here you go; sharp pictures because its a 16mp" when in reality; that's not how it works... the secret to great pictures is really in the processing after the picture is taken and a lot of companies fail terribly at that. I'll be happy when the days come that I can spend at most; $300 and get a great camera, great battery life, and modern nice looking hardware with a decent screen, decent ram, and a solid performing processor.

I personally only care about which one has better screen quality for things like watching KZbin videos, which one has gorilla Glass, and which one has a better speed or less lagging? I cannot see how you turn back on one button navigation. I hate gestures and three button navigation is a big step backwards. I will never understand why Moto comes up with a perfectly good navigation technique and they remove it and replace it with something clunky, vague and inferior. Whether you need it or not we have to come up with a new feature to help sell you a phone every year. Not that it's an improvement.🤬

Yesterday I switched from G7 Power to G Power. I just switched back a few minutes ago. The first problem was the hotspot could not be used and my provider could not solve the problem. That was the deciding factor for switching back to G7. I bought it because I wanted the new features 64gb with 4gb RAM and to upgrade to Android 10 and none of those are worth not having the hot spot. And the new processor is no big deal, at all, not a noticeable upgrade. Battery life is great but that like all the features with G7 are not improvements. The new G Power also feels cheap and I absolutely hate the camera "dot" to the left that is an eyesore. I do not recommend G Power if you already enjoy your G7. I have been a Straight Talk customer for a decade and the G7 is their best performer with supported features.

Aaron, your videos are always geared towards what the consumer wants to know rather than what the manufacturer wants you to believe. Great job! Now...since you recently did a video where you raved about the G7 power, I was hoping you'd remark more as to whether the gains on this model are worth what you give up on the previous model. Its my understanding that with this model you get more RAM, twice the storage, upgraded camera, and higher resolution screen. However, you give up turbo charging, and face unlock and I think I've read a slight amount of battery life. Why Motorola always takes away something when they add to their model frustrates me. However, since the release price is the same as the previous model, I am thinking it is worth taking the leap. Waiting a little longer in case there's a Father's Day sale ( since there wasn't a Memorial Day sale).
@gearupaaron
@gearupaaron 4 жыл бұрын
Hey David, I can definitely say this: the G Power is worth the upgrade, unless you already own a G7 Power. The prices are so close that if I were looking for a new handset, it'll be the newer model. RAM and storage is actually the same (and the new chipset leverages them very well), but the screen upgrade and the long battery life (which seems close to, if not longer, than the G7P). Turbo Charger was nice, but I can do without face unlock (convenient, but neither the most reliable nor the safest). Yeah, if you can wait for discounts, it'll be a great, great buy. Father's Day might be too soon to offer discounts on such a new phone, but you never know!

I've upgraded to the G Power after having the G7 Power for 7 months, and I'm happy with it. But if you are on the fence, I'd wait. The G Power fixed a couple of my biggest nitpicks with the G7 Power and that was the storage space and camera quality. Definitely better this time around. And also turbo charging does work, but sadly doesn't ship with one. I'd hang on to your G7 Power if it still works. I'd only upgrade if you didn't have a big battery phone already.
@dbsmithinFL
@dbsmithinFL 4 жыл бұрын
@@JustAFatGuyInTX I almost purchased a G Power at Sam's and when I got to the pickup station, they didn't have it in stock...they just had the cards you take to the register to pay for it prior to pickup. So I got a refund. I am on the fence now for a couple of reasons. As has been Motorola's irritating practice, they give improvements and take away something else. In this case, I hear they have discontinued Gorilla Glass, the turbo charger, and face unlock (which the G7 power had). No NFC is only a minor drawback, but taking away features it had before is frustrating. Makes you want to wait for the next iteration if I can or buy the cheaper G7 power and make due with less storage and RAM until they come out with a better product value.

Unless you're the type of person that "MUST HAVE" (for whatever silly reason you say to try to justify that..) this is perfect fir anywhere from a beginner to a pretty advanced Android user. The camera is shockingly great. The screen quality is 1080P and the brightness is GREAT. The processor runs very fast. It has 4GB if ram and 64 GB of storage (with the ability to add storage with an SD Card. The only "downside" is that the rear is plastic so it doesn't feel as 'high end' as some other phones that have glass front and back. The battery life is PHENOMENAL. it's got fast charging. The front facing camera is great quality too. It's a very very good "MID RANGE" device that you can now buy for a ridiculous $139.
