All Androids lag, that is true and you need a monster of hardware to minimize that. On the other hand any Windows Phone, including the 520, runs like a charm. Nexus 5 has 2 GB of RAM, that is four times the 520 RAM. The problem is the OS, not the phone :)

I'd pick the Moto G. It has a bigger and better screen with a 720p display, it has better internal components and it's using Android - which has much better app-support. Oh and it's water-resistant from the start, handy if you live in an area where it often rains and otherwise, it makes the phone more durable. Since many phones these days don't have expendable storage and/or a replaceable battery (I'm writing this from an HTC One X), those disadvantages are minor. I've learned to deal with them and it's fine - admittedly, I do have a 32GB model. Your mileage may vary.

Yup, I've got a HTC One X 32GB running KitKat, and it's the fastest experience ever. I'd also like to mention that I have a Lumia 520 too, that phone *yes fanboys, you'd better believe it* lags like hell, the quality of that device screams "cheap BS" since it's only 3 months old and the camera shutter button has fallen off inside the phone rendering it useless. I'd pick the Moto G anyday. I'm no fanboy, but Android KitKat is a very pleasant experience.

I just bought Lumia 520. For this price range can't be better. Had cheap android phone LG P500 and Samsung La Fleur. Didn't like them, cause cheap android works like SHT. Budget Windows Phone much better and stable and faster and safer. I don't feel lack of apps in WP8. All I need is there - sports tracker, games, skype, Panorama and even Nokia camera app (still in beta, but it enables me features that only Lumia PureView phones have). The only bad thing in Lumia - No Flash, but it doesn't really help me as I shoot only in daytime :D. Quality of picture and video is much better than my previous phones with ~3.0MP cameras ;).

Is really weird, I just get the lumia 520 as a gift, (I have LG-G3) at first I look it as a joke, but is really really good, for me of course, the few apps that the phone have it, I really love them, mix radio for example is music for free with google you have to pay for that, here maps is another one is also free, works offline, and it is really fast for EVERYTHING, really good camera take photos as if had flash, pics are really clear, is my first lumia and i am very satisfied.

I had the 520 and recently upgraded to a nexus 5. I liked the Lumia, but i always felt like the software was holding back what was some pretty solid hardware. For getting work done, the Lumia's connectivity with skydrive and all the Office programs is awesome and very useful, but all in all, the lack of Windows apps (like seriously, no official KZbin?) is what sets the Lumia back. However, that was the same argument people made about android vs IOS a couple of years ago, so you never know when that will change.

lairdriver Lumia is a great smartphone, Apple phone though look the same on first glance is a jewel, musical instrument and smartphone. Obviously not every way the best phones but i found IOS the most polished mobile os with the best quality app selection. It's worth considering that price differences not only in the mobile market are changing exponentially. Buying premium is not necessarily bad.

The Nokia camera offers way more features to fine-tune your pictures before taking then. You have a cool slider with all the options. The most useful one being a manual focus slider. Also, you can manually set a timer for how much time you allow your camera to absorb light, thus producing far better pictures in low-light because of it. You can look it up on KZbin to see what I mean. Look for Nokia Pro Cam (now renamed Nokia Camera)

I've had the Lumia 521 for over a year now and it still works pretty good.. No lag as WP doesn't need RAM Like other software but since windows phone 8.1 preview it has slowed down a bit that's to be expected. I'm buying the Moto g next week and mostly cause of the display and quad core cpu.

For my daughter's Christmas present it was the Moto G until I caught the Nokia 521 on sale for $60. I used it to a few days and found it to be impressive at that price point and that's coming from a Note 3 guy. There was a hint of lag when opening up some apps but nothing major. But the true test was that my daughter had almost a week with it and not one complaint. But if the Nokia 521 was $130 I would have paid the $50 extra for the G. It's just the mindset of paying only $60 for just a great device.

I just switched to the Moto G from an old Lumia 710. At first it felt too big, but after a week or so I got used to it, and it's still useable with one hand. I still love Windows Phones, but guys, you can buy this Moto G 4G LTE unlocked for $199. For that price, and with the Android app ecosystem, it's a great bargain. But I can completely understand someone going for a smaller Nokia instead. But personally I'll just wait until Windows Phone 10 rolls out to see if I would want to switch back.

Nokia lumia 520 has a special app called Hollywood. You can watch any movie you want for free. As long as your using a Windows phone. Thats why i now have a lumia 520. My lg flex is now my backup phone

In the Netherlands, The Moto G is a bit cheaper than the Samsung ATIV S and the HTC 8X. The Moto G is 200 euro's (8 gb), the 8X is 200 euro's and the ATIV S is 220 euro's. It might be different in other countries but here the Moto G has 2 worthy opponents when it comes to specs and price cause they are in the same price range.

Well, we can't expect to compare a $40-$50 phone with a $170-$200 phone, but because I don't play games like others and I just require basic stuff, I will get a Nokia Lumia 520, but the I personally would prefer the Nokia Lumia 822, which packs flash, front facing and a strong glass, 16gb internal, and still cost slightly less than $100.

I don't know if quality of hardware is better in US for 520 but here in India people are putting there 520 up for sale within 2-3 months of use, some of my friends who purchased the phone said touch becomes bad very soon and apps won't response properly, unfortunately we don't have contract system like in US where phone can be returned or exchanged for another one, here we need to pay full price which is around 160 USD and once purchased we can't return back, only option is to sell cheaply on olx etc

As a user of Android for 3 years.. and suddenly switch to Lumia 520 with windows 8.1... Android has a great market and has thousands of apps in the market, Is customizable in every way possible... You can't say android all the way cause almost most brands has android os now.. and it depends most on the specs on whic runs faster.. but, android is great because it's like universal cause almost all people has it here.. Windows phone.. Is very fast, smooth when using the interface.. has very limited apps =A= I miss some apps I use in Android... (limited apps means smoother processing right?? mayby that's why it's so smooth) It's very great for office use!! It has microsoft office.. and as a Windows 8 laptop user, it's a very great advantage! I make a note on OneNote, just connect to wifi, and It's already there in my laptop! Also, The camera is great just as the video says... (It can capture 720p on 5mp nokia,,, and even my HTC 5mp can only do 420p)

Zelomeisterdude No, the 521 is identical to the 520. The 525 will have 1 GB ram instead fo 512 MB. Also, none of these models have 4G. Only 21 Mbps speeds (which I think are enough for most people)

The Lumia 521 as I'm using right now even though the lack of app development is far better than budget Android phones such as the Concord or the Prism 2. The 521 is fast and it's not much at all different from software from a 920. Budget Android phones usually ship with outdated software like Gingerbread

I bought Moto G from BestBuy for $79. It has good battery life "•2,070 mAh battery", •Excellent speaker loudness . The bad news, the system crash when trying to flash my phone to work on page plus. :(
