A joy to listen to the sound of the triple and see it in motion

G’day that bought back terrific memories I had the RGS 1000 it was the best bike I ever owned, it was a all out sport bike I loved going through the tight corners in then hills. The worst thing that I ever did was sell it , thank you for filming this 1200 kind regards John Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺

Trouble is you don't realise what you have at the time though. For me, SD 900 Darmah, awesome bike unlike all the modern stuff since. I guess you wouldn't use it all year round though, in Tasmania, not like 🌞 nth Qld 😁

I rode this bike last year near Spilimbergo, with a small adjustment to the rear suspension the bike was absolutely excellent, the bike revs freely (not exceeding 9500rpm honestly Renato!) With Marco chasing on the Bimota YB we had an indicated 230kph with no effort at all. Perfetto!!

Had a 500SF only. A catastrophy of a bike, but loved it. Even the old triples were sensible as hell, they were top of mean bikes all over! The 1000/1200 was unreachable for me, thanks god for all the money I saved.

Ciao, quanto costa aggiustare l'albero motore ? Una o due delle tre parti si e girato un po', adesso i pistoni non stanno piu' alla stessa altezza mettendo il motore su' PMS.

Wait a minute... There's something with that sound. The RGS fitted with 3 into 1 in another video has a much better sound. This one sounds kinda uneven, like a missing spark plug in there. Probably a firing order related stuff?

The difference in the exhaust sound is due to the different crank in the RGS compared to the earlier triples. The early crank was 180 degrees so it had an uneven firing order and it sounded like a four cylinder missing on one of it's cylinders. The later triples like the RGS / RGA models had the more conventional 120 degree crank like the Triumph / BSA triples and the Yamaha XS750 / XS850. The 180 degree triples are the ones that created the Laverda legend and they are the most sought after. The later triples were more civilised with the smoother running engine and hydraulic clutch, so no more clutch cables to break. I was lucky enough to own a 1980 Laverda 1200 "Mirage" in the early nineteen eighties, it had the 180 degree crank. It was a beast of a bike with heavy clutch and throttle controls. It was also very thirsty, 30 mpg was the best I could get from 4-star fuel, with spirited riding that dropped to 27 mpg. It was very fast and furious and riding it always put a huge grin on my face.
