I was only a kid back then, but it just shows how great U.S.A. were during that era. Jeff would of done even better on a 250, forgot that he stepped up and raced a Man's machine that Des Nations. I also forgot how great Steve was back then on Honda. If only the current American guys could each dominate like that, but the MXGP and MX2 guys are strong right now focusing 24/7 on motocross and now they also have the same skill set as our guys. I hope Eli on a Yamaha, Webb and Martin represent in 2022.

Showtime was showtime (until carmicheal came around showtime was the goat). Nobody showboated at Des Nations until Mcgrath - he was just that good - right or wrong, doesn't matter, I liked his riding style. You get to do that when you lap the 2nd place rider on occasion, at that level. Lampson - didn't realize how good he was on a 125. Seen him at Springcreek MN outdoor nationals and he smoked everyone as a factory honda rider. I was young and didn't realize what I was watching - pure perfection on that day. As well as Bailey on the 500 that day. Seen Lachien damn near lap the second place rider as well.

Wow, McGrath really put on a jumping clinic... he is so focused and has great timing. Oh, I forgot smooth LOL. Wonderful to watch these old races. I will be most pleased when the Covid pandemic is behind us and we all can get back to beautiful times like these. Thanks for the video. 👍

I remember this years (1996) race. Earlier the Americans found, ahem, a secret line down one of the hills. A series of 4 jumps, Emig, Lammy, and Jeremy launched several of them over a hundred feet I believe. The Federation made a decision to doze down the 2 middle jumps. Guess what the rest of the story was... well no surprise conveniently there is little to no footage of this part of the track from the Spanish media or FIM....

So weird that Germany put Beirer on the 250cc and Eckenbach on the 125cc, I would've reversed that without a doubt

nice to see a 4 stroke in 1996

Yeah, Joel Smets rode hard, I just think that era the 4 stroke held him back.

@@Vince-zt4vb He had an injury in 96 and wasn't 100%. He won the 500cc World Championship on that Husaberg in 95, 97 & 98. 1995 MXdN Smets and that Husaberg was plenty fast and went 1-1 in the 500cc class.
