People who don't understand this bike will never understand it, and people who understand and love it can't be talked out of that. Stop hating and let people enjoy their wheels.

Exactly!

What's to understand? It's a 529 pound, "mehh" horsepower V4 that sounds good and is comfortable. There's nothing wrong with it in isolation. The problem is, you can get a lot more technology, pay less money, have less weight, and a heap more power from similar sport-touring bikes these days. That's the reason Honda quit making this. Ninja 1000 for instance, with lean-sensitive ABS, 140 hp, 80+ torque. Or a sport-ADV bike with more legroom, less upper body fatigue, cruise control, better tank range, heaps more power, more wind protection, and passenger room.
@bobklee23975 жыл бұрын
Lifted_Above The reason Honda are abandoning it is the cost of making the V4 engine compliant with Euro 5 emission standards. There are bikes that have more technology, there are bikes that are lighter and faster and cheaper- you are missing the reason why people like and still buy this bike. You do not buy this bike based in the spec sheet.

The most important feature of the bike: it's called "Interceptor". How can you compete with that?
@TheM7509 жыл бұрын
I don't like how they moved the exhaust, the under-tail was perfect. I have a 6th Gen (2003) VFR800A and I love ever minute on it. Fantastic bike.
@2wheelmaniacrides9 жыл бұрын
I have a 4th Gen VFR750 I love the Interceptor, I wish it was a little more potent power wise to give it some extra sportiness, and bring back the left mount Gear Driven Cams, best engine noise ever. Sounds like a supercharged small block
@whattheblp61489 жыл бұрын
The2WheelManiac I want this engine with gear driven cams in a naked sport bike so bad! Put it in something just under 400 pounds, with a single sided swing arm and some decent suspension and they would have a hit. They could market it against the Z800, FZ-09, Brutale 800, ect.
@2wheelmaniacrides9 жыл бұрын
***** That would be fantastic, It's kinda what I'm building from my 4th gen.

Bought this bike to stand out from the crowd, and geez I have achieved my goal. The engine soundtrack absolutely shames every I4 ever made (including crossplanes) and the VTEC character makes the ride dynamic and interesting. The heavy curb weight makes for an immaculately planted and substantial ride, especially on the highway or with nasty crosswinds.
@Killswitch-ON2 жыл бұрын
Dude, the inline 4 sounds like sewing machines, but the c4 is out of the I4 club. My work buddy has a mt10, sounds stunning, but looks like transformers. Had a Vtec 2005, trade it for zx14r and returned to Viffer, this time got the 5th gen which i like even more. Waiting for upcoming VFR, if it will ever come.
@UncleWally37 жыл бұрын
Went to buy this model but there was an ‘09 on the floor with low kilometers, light TBR exhaust system with the Power Commander V, saddle bags, and a few other farkles . . . at half the cost. So, I bought it and after 6000 km’s I love it, all the more for its bipolar engine character. I do believe I made the right choice? Time and another season will tell . . .

I've the model before this, it felt very composed doing fast corner on wet roads. Maybe the well balance weight helps. The only dislike I remember was the geometry of the seating. My shoulder joint area felt numb after just an hour of continuous riding.

I put Convertibars and a Givi box on my 1999 CBR600F4. Same ergos, but it's a hundred pounds lighter, more powerful, the suspension is adjustable and better, and it's way easier and cheaper to service. I can still ride two up with my girlfriend and she has a grab handle mounted to the gas cap filler ring that keeps her solidly anchored on the bike for sporty riding. This thing...this is a ton of money for a pretty lackluster bike. Most manufacturers make something better in the same category, never mind what you can do with an old bike and a few mods. Honda makes one snoozefest after another these days.
@Rick_Sanchez_C137_5 жыл бұрын
I had an 86 interceptor 750.... sorry I got rid of it. I have seen lately that there are still brand new, fresh out of the crate 2014 models for sale in some dealerships...now I’m considering if I want a 2014 or if I can find one a 2015... the price to get a new 14 is cheaper than a used one with 16k miles on it.
@Radioactive_Slime9 жыл бұрын
The Vtec is not an issue. (Its not obtrusive, just cool.) Nor is it necessary. Complexity with little real world return. Honda could easily produce a powerful and efficient normal V-4 if it put it's R&D mind to it . What would be easier? Shed another 20kg or find another 20hp? It's still a great bike but not for the price. C'mon Honda, get back to basics, keep it simple with the VFR; the customers will return.
@stevemasterson77768 жыл бұрын
Radioactiveslime yeah Vtech on the VFR always seemed like a gimmick. just run 4 valve and have that extra power from the low mid range up.

@stevemasterson77768 жыл бұрын
Mark Eldridge a bit softer overall more torque and low-end power but the CBR will feel much quicker at high RPM. the max power is similar but the CBR is much lighter and revs quicker.

Most people with any mechanical skill, do the airbox snorkle, and or the vacuum delete, at minimum. Only reason Honda has v-tec is for emission tree huggers. to begin with, but its a marketing gimmick people keep falling for.

What happens you take a V4 engine and bring it bang up to date with full electronics? Wait for it ............. you have an Aprilia RSV4. The VFR 800 is too heavy, too slow, and it has a nasty $500 valve adjustment charge waiting for you. The only place for a VFR 800/1200 today is the museum.
@bobklee23975 жыл бұрын
Orange Crush Too heavy too slow for what? The full electronics you desire do what exactly? Oh yes they moderate the inputs the rider makes and protects them if they ride like knobs. You will have trouble finding anyone to work on your Aprilia RSV4 in a couple of years and when you do I hope you have more than $500 saved 😀 I think you are a different market segment
