I was a super broke college kid when I turbocharge my 71 Datsun. I traded my time for a broken tile 38 mm two bolt wastegate that was cracked and then took the guts out of it and put it a no-name housing and it's been in there for almost 15 years. Diaphragm still good still makes the same amount of power and no added lag.

How do you compare these to the Turbo Smart’s hyper gate external waste gate’s design? They seem to be very similar. What do you prefer a 4 port boost solenoid or two 3 port solenoid in a pull push configuration? Waiting for Garrett to release their electric turbos at the next SEMA show.

@@motoiq I’m using Turbosmart’s 45mm Hypergate with a 4 port boost solenoid controlled by Motec M142 to a Garrett G30-770. The only thing is the company who made my turbo kit welded the wg flange at a 90 degree angle on top of the .82 a/r turbine housing which isn’t optimal for flow. My fk8 k20c1 made 686whp 575 ft lbs on Church automotive’s hub dyno with a di and port injection full E85 fuel system with a surge tank.

It haven't been able to find any leaks, at least while the car is cold, so I recently replaced the spring. The new one was 8% longer and several shades lighter than the old one. I haven't had a chance to see if this fixes it, though (because racecar). The turbo kit is probably about 15 years old, though the miles aren't all that high.

I have a question and I need your specialty opinion. The wastegate had started pulsating after I’ve turn up the boost to from 4psi to 10psi. A 4port boost controller was install via haltech 2500elite ecu. On 3rd gear, boost is set at 5psi and after 4k rpm it’s set at 10psi. But since the wastegate pulsating started, boost will come alot later in 3rd gear and I’ll have fuel cutoff around 6500rpm. Check engine light will pop up showing a code for INJECTORS 90% CYCLE DUTY. It has a 450lph walbro fuel pump and 1000cc Bosch injectors.. also on e85.

Would it be a good idea to install an external wastegate with an aftermarket divorced downpipe already on? Right now I’m having issues with stock turbo and wastegate solenoid creating this type of shaking of the car at high rpm. Shop told me it was the downpipe causing the issue. Have no idea how to fix this please help!
@motoiq
@motoiq 8 ай бұрын
You don't use a divorced downpipe with an external wastegate, the wastegate has it's own exhaust that you can dump or merge back into the downpipe. For a stock turbo, switching to an external wastegate would be difficult and not worth it.

Hysteresis isn’t fast response it means that the the history of what the valve did effects the next operation. So more than likely It means there is little friction, or stiction. Imagine you bent a piece of metal and you let your finger off of it. It would spring back a little towards its original position. Then if you bent it the other way it would spring back, but in the opposite direction. This is where the history of the metal maters it springs back in both situations, but where it was before the bending operation effects the direction. Hysteresis probably isn’t the best word for repeatability.
@motoiq
@motoiq 2 жыл бұрын
That isnt the meaning of it either, It is the drift in control response which is part postion and part in the time domain.
@andrewf8486
@andrewf8486 2 жыл бұрын
@@motoiq Hysteresis is the dependence of the state of a system on its history. For example, a magnet may have more than one possible magnetic moment in a given magnetic field, depending on how the field changed in the past. Plots of a single component of the moment often form a loop or hysteresis curve, where there are different values of one variable depending on the direction of change of another variable. This history dependence is the basis of memory in a hard disk drive and the remanence that retains a record of the Earth's magnetic field magnitude in the past. Hysteresis occurs in ferromagnetic and ferroelectric materials, as well as in the deformation of rubber bands and shape-memory alloys and many other natural phenomena. In natural systems it is often associated with irreversible thermodynamic change such as phase transitions and with internal friction; and dissipation is a common side effect.

I never though if it as an electro magnetic analogy before. I just though of it in the classical definition. "The phenomenon in which the value of a physical property lags behind changes in the effect causing it". Thank you for bringing that up.
