My dream car! Open top all the way for me too! Beautiful color. Wish I could afford it (Love Motoman’s options game, btw!). Instead, I have a deposit for a 2021/2022 Red Mist C8 Corvette Convertible, cause no one can beat it’s price for what you get. Maybe one day after that I can buy one of these AMG’s ... used.

As a structural engineer for a major car company I can tell you “the most capable performance car without a roof” is a Mclaren (or perhaps another car with a carbon tub, but Mclaren is the only one I personally have lots of experience with) ...every other open top car is significantly compromised when it comes to comparing them to their coupe counterpart because of the reliance on the roof to stiffen the structure. Adding strengthening measures to door sills, bulkheads, steering column, floor structure etc are all there to try to restore stiffness lost in open top transformation but will never restore it to any even close to the level of that of a carbon tubbed vehicle, hence why it is basically the configuration of every race car

I commented this above. You are correct about the Mclaren but the Ferrari 458/488 actually does not have a particularly stiff chassis. I don't know why, but the solarbeam yellow in all of its 9k glory just clicks with me when it comes to the AMG GT. If I was writing a cheque, I'd go for the hardtop AMG GT C with a glass roof to be honest, the R is a bit too extreme for daily use. As always, excellent work, M.

I loooooove roadsters, this one is very cool. But I don't get the hardcore track focus roadster? Just me? For me its about the handling, fun, connection, sound .... the overall experience. The track focus part is defeating the purpose, am I wrong and alone here?

It's always for someone. The AMG lineup is crazy. They have so many different droptops. S63/65 Cabriolet, E53 Cabriolet, C63s/43 Cabriolet, SL63/65, SLC43 and GT roadster, GTC Roadster, GTR Roadster. They provide everything, you just pick what you want. II'm pretty sure there are people loving the top end track monster droptops.

I am a big Mercedes Benz fan and have been ever since I was a little kid. I want to like this car, but I don't like the styling. The regular AMG GT looks better. The R is a bit too much. Previous top of the line models like the SLR McLaren and SLS AMG looked so much better.

You need to know the wing on a track focus supercar is not for show. Functionality is everything. AMG has the most advanced aerodynamic engineering in the market. They clearly know better how to design a rear wing on the AMG GTR. It's perfectly there.

0-60 in 3.5 because its rear drive... at the strip with good traction its closer to 3.0....... Even my SL63 does 3.5 with worse tires and worse traction, and heavier than the GTR

Waiting for the New SL to come out... Why they make every sports model in convertible I dont know, they should leave the convertible to the new SL, make the GTR hard top, get rid of the GT-C. Too much crossover between the cars. This would lower production costs, and maybe they could drop the prices 25 or 30k.

Isn't true that all performance car makers try to emulate their F1 cars for their street cars? (Mercedes.AMG has some experience in this no?) Have you ever seen an F1 car with a roof? Stop complaining about roadsters with sporting intentions! My 1988 BMW Cabrio's a pillars shook really back going over railroad tracks. Sometimes, the doors wouldn't open properly if I had it parked with one corner higher etc. This is 2022 and new roadsters are so much stiffer that body flex is not even noticeable. My SL55 AMG with the P30 Performance Package has zero body flex even with its stiffer suspension and she's 17 years old.

Droptops are always heavier because of the structure and safety staff. If you want hardcore performance on tracks and better handling, just get a normal AMG GTR.
